Class of 28 Undergrad/Class of 26 Grad: a thread to capture the journey of applications, pre screens, tours and auditions

The professor there is very kind, knowledgeable, resourceful, caring, accommodating… and his studio is friendly collaborative welcoming…
Best wishes to your kid.

We’ll be in Michigan this week, too! My S is interviewing for Performing Arts Technology. Not his first music interview, but definitely his first among the more selective schools. Weather looks decent (except for Thursday rain when we arrive). Good luck!

We are on Thursday, just in time for rain! But hopefully we get to see a little bit. Dont quite have enough time to see it all. 24 hour trip from east coast. That’s how all our auditions are sadly. Hopefully she falls in love with one and vice versa. Also we will find out about EA for UMichigan the next day. We anticipate a deferral, but that’s ok.

My son has the first of his auditions tomorrow for Delaware, then next weekend he has two for Duquesne and Penn State and finally his final one is on the 6th with West Chester. For his audition for Duquesne, they wanted a video audition sent in a week ahead of the audition, so he is finally finishing that up between jazz band and musical practice.
Thankfully he knows he is struggling with his AP English and he has asked his teacher for some extra. Between all the district, counties and auditions he will be missing a bunch of class.

We are on a similar schedule! My son is also doing Delaware tomorrow and scheduled for WC on the 6th! PSU is later in Feb. Expecting his UMD decision this Friday and also headed out to CCM this weekend plus a few more in February. And like you said, district and county concerts as well. Such busy days and so much for them to balance! Good luck to your son!

Just as slight reassurance, last year my son heard from Curtis on 1/25!

My D is still waiting on Royal Academy violin but got into Massachusetts Allstate which is quite a feat on violin in our state. Best of luck everyone with auditions. D starts Sunday with her first college one.

Awesome and thank you! I can’t wait to visit (first time). Not sure what S will think - not sure if he is keen on potentially going so far from home.

Ann Arbor is amazing!!! So many great restaurants and a fun, bustling urban feel. Central Campus is gorgeous! An an easy university bus ride up to North Campus for SMTD. Where are you guys coming from?

We are in VA. It’s not that far, but kids have a different perspective. We can fly direct in just under 2 hours, but it would be an 8 hour drive. The only one farther for us would be Indiana and we won’t experience that until March. Definitely a long process. I feel for all these kids, but mostly for the parents!

We’re from near Philly- so same situation!
We flew from Newark- flight was about an hour and a half. We took an Uber to Ann Arbor and then took the Michigan Flyer bus back to the airport- which was super easy!!
It’s nice not having to rent a car!
That’s our only issue with Indiana- yes they have a shuttle but both times we’ve gone we’ve rented a car- which is a bit of a hassle.

Is he interviewing for audio engineering at Indiana? My son was there two weeks ago.

My son also interviewed for UMich PAT last Friday! We’re in California (but I grew up in PA). Good luck to all!

Love that!! Good luck!!

My daughter heard about the prescreen but not an audition date. We’re just three weeks out! Plane tickets are already expensive. :-1:

Yes, he’s interviewing for audio engineering at IU on 3/2! We weren’t planning on renting a car, but maybe we should rethink that? I saw there is a shuttle, but I don’t think it stops at our hotel, which is a bummer, so we were just going to try to cab/Uber it. I know it’ll be pricey, but IMO beats renting a car.

We rented a car both times for Indiana! If you’re not staying in downtown Bloomington then you’ll definitely need one!
Not sure if you like Indian food, but the Indian restaurant on 4th has an incredible lunch buffet!!

@runninglate, my daughter applied to one MM program so far; got through prescreens, and auditioned this past Saturday. I’m waiting to hear if she’ll apply to a second one this weekend. She is only applying to programs where she knows a voice teacher (met voice teachers from these two schools, UT Austin and Montclair State, during her summer program). So I have no idea how things will unfold.

If your child starts to get a sense of whether programs are a good fit, she might shorten the list as that becomes clearer. My D canceled two audition dates after good results from two programs she preferred. At the time, I was not sure this was a good idea but this reduced stress and she only dealt with programs she really wanted to study in.
