Class of 28 Undergrad/Class of 26 Grad: a thread to capture the journey of applications, pre screens, tours and auditions

Hello! I feel like we were on the board together four years ago. Good luck to your daughter as she decides her next steps. Having a teacher you really want to work with is the most important thing!

We saw the recording studio today… wow,
Like out of a professional record label or something…. Not that I’ve ever been. And the PAT students we met super friendly.

Does anyone know when UNC reports Kenan semifinalists?

And she got through Royal Academy on violin prescreening audition in NYC

We bought ā€œwinter bootsā€ that were key for the snow that greeted my son on the audition trips. He then brought an additional pair of shoes with him, that he changed to once he was inside the buildings. He decided to wear his black suit for the auditions, which gave him additional layers, and he had one heavy coat but it wasn’t long so his legs were cold! Would your daughter be comfortable in heavy tights that match her dress or shoes? They make a huge difference.

My daughter got passed the prescreen on violin and we have a lot of questions with the double degree. I am glad she loves it!!! Probably the school we know the least about.

Hi!

Son was just accepted to Frost MS&P! He’s so excited!
But… no mention of any scholarship award. I remember reading somewhere that Frost awards might be posted at a later date? Does anyone have any info?

deferred from frost. heartbroken as it’s my dream school

Keep in mind they still have 2 weekends of auditions left! It’s amazing that you were invited to audition EA! A deferral isn’t a no. You still have a great shot!

:mending_heart: You auditioned EA? It’s hard to wait, I know, but take heart it’s a deferral. My son did EA last year, was deferred, and then was accepted after all the auditions were complete.

RE: Michigan SMTD. If one is admitted to SMTD, upon matriculation are they able to declare a dual degree? D24 is specifically interested in CS

Hi, we were just at my son’s SMTD audition today and attended the admissions presentation. They said yes, but it’s best to declare it the first or second year and to make sure to work with the guidance counselors to plan the path to both programs.

I know a bunch of kids who were deferred last year then accepted regular admissions…Don’t sweat it!

Don’t despair! You’re still in the running. A college counselor friend says that this year - for the first time - qualified kids are generally being rejected from ED / EA. Consider yourself one of the lucky minority.

We heard from temple about an academic merit award, and have not yet auditioned. Most schools mention music based awards, do schools ever give you both? Specifically temple…… probably just wishful thinking over here…

New here! Well, sort of–haha. Been following along for a few weeks. My daughter is auditioning for VP programs. Anyone here headed to IU Jacobs for an audition next weekend (Feb 2-3)?

Yes, you can qualify for both. My son got academic merit from one school with his acceptance early in the Fall and there is still potential to get more through the music school after his audition. So fingers crossed you will see more through music!
