And you should see the pile of vitamins I throw at this girl as she leaves for school each morning. Staying healthy, especially for a vocalist, is a HUGE part of the audition battle. She said that 10 kids were absent from her choir class yesterday–ugh.
Would I assume you get acceptance and then financial package is in March? Or do they come together? Also, when would we receive official acceptance? I love the verbal affirmation, but I reallllly love it in writing. How long after the audition I mean…. Or is that institution dependent?
My son had is EA audition at Frost on 12/2 and then found out last Friday when the university-wide EA decisions were released.
From what I’ve read, Frost releases merit info in March.
He was at Jacobs on 1/12 and they said the earliest would be 3 weeks, but could be longer and UMich (1/19) said he would hear end of February/early March. But I have no clue how those institutions release their scholarship info!
Very jealous and congrats! Mine son has done 4 in person already with one full academic and SOM acceptance and one verbal acceptance. 3 more in person to go, and one other that he will possibly withdraw from if he gets more acceptances before the end of the month. It is a busy February!
At this point, we are waiting on acceptance from the SOMs. I am guessing merit awards and financial packages will be included with or very soon after acceptance. My hope is by mid-March we’ll know. We are waiting on: Jacobs, Michigan State, Eastman, and UMich (the last audition). We’ve already heard from our in-state option, but the aforementioned schools are D’s top choices. OOS schools are $$$, so financial is QUITE important in our decision!
Congrats to all have heard good news!! I’m really looking forward to seeing where we all land!
Just a heads up so you don’t get nervous or think something is wrong. Jacobs tends to release scholarship offers around April 1, give or take a few days. This was the experience of my 2 oldest kids and a couple of their friends. My daughter auditioned in January of her year. My son in March. Admissions offers came well before that though–about 10 days after their auditions.
Has anyone out there done a virtual interview for the Carnegie Mellon composition program? My S24 has one this weekend and was just wondering what to expect…
Last year my son auditioned at U Michigan, Rice, Northwestern, and Johns Hopkins, in that order, I think. U Michigan SMTD official acceptance came in February but scholarship offer didn’t come until March. He also applied to U Michigan engineering school, for which he didn’t hear back until March. The other three schools all released acceptances the same day as the university release day in March. Merit scholarship offers came the day after each acceptances.
He and all his friends discussed how to negotiate with each university for better scholarship offer. Eventually most of them received better offers than the original ones. Some schools are more flexible while some are firm but it never hurts to ask. Music is expensive.
My daughter’s last one is in March - McGill. February vacation week is crazy 3 auditions. It feels good though that process is almost done - 5 weeks and done. Best wishes to everyone and safe travels!!!
We start auditions/interviews tomorrow - 2 this weekend, one next weekend and then we’re done unless S passes pre-screen for Curtis. And speaking of, S said he got an email from admissions either yesterday or day before. They apologized for the delay and assured applicants they would hear at least one month prior to audition date. So, probably 8 more days of waiting for that.
Continued wishes for great auditions/interviews everyone!
We’ll be there in person Saturday for Electronic Comp interview! We only had one virtual interview at another school, but it went fine. Then, we had one weird hybrid experience where S was in person with 2 or 3 faculty, but 1 or 2 other faculty were there on screen via Zoom. Good luck to your S!
Hope it was a great and successful day! Sadly he didn’t get jazz, but still had a great audition at Jacobs to make up for it! Still more opportunities for states coming up in orchestra and band and more auditions of course!
