Re Jacob’s: My daughter’s friend just went as well. I think he really liked it for percussion and overall. Today was USC for us, and they were really friendly too.
That’s great for both!
My son’s two auditions this weekend went great. One more on Tuesday, then the waiting game begins.
Just had my audition at Jacob’s as well. So many talented people! The wait is torture
Has anyone heard anything from CCM? He auditioned a week ago and yesterday we got a parent specific email regarding next steps for our accepted student with his name in it, but he hasn’t received any notification at all and his portal still says under review. Curious if anyone knows what their process is for notifications, academic first and then music?
There was a lot of talent yesterday but hopefully it was a successful day for you! With rolling admissions maybe decisions will come sooner than others. Good luck!
Does CCM have 2 acceptances? One to the school in general and a separate one to the school of music? I have seen this before…where the school of music denies a student but they continue to get accepted student information. I know that this different (before the school of music’s decision). But it makes me wonder if that communication is related to a general acceptance? You can call or email the school for a clarification if needed.
I was thinking that as well, we have academic from other schools while we wait on music. But CCM students find out about both academic and music well after they do regular academic acceptances. So not sure and may follow up with admissions this week to check if we don’t hear anything else. Trying to be patient, unsuccessfully, lol!
(Just a warning, this may be too much detail for some - sorry!)
Sitting in the airport waiting on our flight, and I thought I’d share a few thoughts on our weekend.
Jacobs impressed me as an organization because they offer so. much. support. for their students. One thing I thought was a bit awkward was there was no lunch offering, and you can’t go to the dining halls because they are in the residence halls. The only place within walking distance was Mama Bear’s pizza, and it was very good. Still, it would have been nice to have something more convenient, even just pre-packaged sandwiches and salads for sale.
S wasn’t very confident after his interview. He expected some questions, but one very much took him off guard. He saw the benefits of Jacobs, but still didn’t feel very comfortable there.
CIM really impressed overall. The leadership is so approachable and friendly. If you are going to an audition there over the next few weeks, definitely take some time to talk to them. We are really hoping and praying he gets accepted there. We both just felt it is THE place for him.
We did hit up Little Italy for a meal. We learned the hard way that reservations are a necessity on Saturday night So, we ate at a little Lebanese restaurant, Sittoo’s, which was very tasty. I made reservations at Etna for Sunday night and it was so delicious!! I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the sit-down restaurants there. As a note, we stayed at the Courtyard, so we were able to easily walk everywhere, even CIM.
Auditioning at Florida State this coming weekend, and that’s it for us. We’ll join in the waiting game.
We too finished 4 trips with 8 auditions and joined waiting game. Still deciding whether to go ahead with 2 local auditions at CSU Long Beach and Chapman. Daughter received her first admission to Butler at UT Austin. It is a great option, so we are very excited about it. Good luck to everyone!
D had a great experience at Jacobs… she was unsure about Jacobs at first, but walked away with a more positive feeling. During our audition weekend, they actually had a lunch put on by the studio. But it was so scant (finger sandwiches, etc.) that I believe everyone went and ate elsewhere anyway, lol. After also visiting Mama Bear’s, D will not eat a salad now without goldfish!
Just in case you end up back at Jacobs for anything, let me suggest Soma right on the corner of 3rd and Eagleson–across from the music office building. It’s a coffee shop but also has pastries, quiche, salads, and sandwiches. If you just need a quick bite and some caffeine, it’ll do the trick:). Hope your son ends up in the perfect place for him!
Jacobs was a whirlwind but everything was very organized, even having a green room for warm ups and people to escort each student up to audition when it was their time. Only one other school so far has had any sort of snack or drink for us so I was happy to see coffee and water for the very early morning! We also ended up at Mama Bear’s before heading to the airport, lol. It was a quick trip but it made my son realize how much he loved it the first time we visited. So now we wait for decisions and a couple more auditions.
We got our answer, accepted!!
Did you get an email or answer from the faculty? I am wondering when the official notice will roll out。
His portal showed a decision, he hasn’t gotten an email yet. Admissions said decisions would be going out at 4pm, had to call since they sent us an accidental email two days ago. Not sure who all was included in this round though. Good luck if you are waiting!
Will check! thnaks for the update
My son also wasn’t confident after his interview for audio engineering at Jacobs! he felt like some of the questions caught him off guard- and that it was more “q and a” as opposed to a back and forth discussion (like Frost and Michigan were)
hope things go his way at CIM!
Good grief, tell me about it! My daughter has completed 4 auditions and has 4 more to go. Plus she has All-State Choir this upcoming weekend. TONS of people sick at her school. If she can make it through to March 4, it will be a miracle.
I didn’t know it was a thing to offer lunch on auditions! I didn’t have an interview portion at my audition for Jacob’s but I was also impressed with how much support they have for their students. I also was impressed with how nice the facilities were (even though the practice rooms are a bit old). Audition was also only 10 minutes
