Class of 28 Undergrad/Class of 26 Grad: a thread to capture the journey of applications, pre screens, tours and auditions

That’s super stressful! And definitely not a good impression. We are feeling somewhat the same way. But I’m glad your son found his right place!

Hi, all! I hope if anyone on this thread was at Oberlin this past weekend that you had a good experience!

S22 helps with Conservatory tours and auditions and said he met lots of great prospective Obies.

We were there 2/9-2/10 and had a good experience! I think it is a top contender for S.

Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions!

Has anyone auditioned for the Royal Academy London? A total different audition than the US ones. My daughter is taking audition IN NYC tomorrow? They do not care about the memorization but you perform two contrasting pieces with piano but you do not rehearse ahead of time.

Hi, are there parents of graduate students here? I am a little bit (well, more…) concerned that my D has not heard anything from IU graduate program yet. I know there is still one weekend audition hapening but if there is anyone that applied for violin at IU for the graduate program who heard back from them, can you please share ?
Thank you:-)

Our daughter was at Oberlin this past weekend. The students were wonderful–very helpful and willing to answer any questions. It seems like a great place!

Yay! They take a lot of pride in how they organize visits, tours, auditions and events for admissions, so that is great to hear!

My son was there Friday and had a wonderful time. I’m wondering if you’re the mom I chatted with during their group jazz audition.

We were there Saturday evening/Sunday!

I have a current IU grad in voice. I think she heard back in early March - she also had a later audition but pretty sure it was late. We definitely had to scramble to find an apartment once she accepted

I hesitated to respond bc my information is old…about 10 years. But this may help you.

IU, historically, will take most of its UG students for grad (assuming that they are working hard and progressing). My D auditioned as an IU UG student for their grad program (voice). Still her studio teacher knew that she wanted to go elsewhere for grad school and was assisting her in the process. She did let my D know that she would hold a spot in her studio until my D made her final decision. Of course, that took some time.

So…I think, in general, grad students can hear late in the process (compared to UG). I hope that this helps.

Not me- my S is a current 2nd year voice major (not jazz). You may have met him on a tour of the conservatory or perhaps checking in for the audition.

I’m glad yours had a great time. It’s a wonderful school and an amazing conservatory!

YES. However, we have several GREAT choices and it really comes down to $$. So the waiting is not over, lol!

Brilliant - is your DD applying for a duel degree? Just wondering if we are still waiting due to that …

She is not. She may choose to minor or concentrate but we did not initially apply for that route. I’m sure the dual is what you’re waiting on. Hopefully not too long now for you!
