Class of 28 Undergrad/Class of 26 Grad: a thread to capture the journey of applications, pre screens, tours and auditions

My daughter did a combination of ways. A couple of schools she stated no preference for teacher and the teachers reached out to her. Two schools out of US do not give you the option for preference. There are tons of violin teachers at those schools. If she gets in she will request a trial lesson. She was able to get a trial lesson for one school that she sent a recording to instead of a live audition. Violin there are multiple teachers usually - went with programs she liked.

She went to EMF the last two summers so she met a lot of teachers from various schools and students from many different music schools.

Changing subject - D got good news from UMich this evening

Congrats! What date did she audition on?

Early February

SDSU music tech (MRTAD) released decisions today.

D24 got an email from Peabody saying they are taking late applications - interesting but also worrying given she has already auditioned there ;slight_smile:

How interesting, someone can apply NOW to Peabody? Highly unusual

I’m not sure how unusual it is – I remember my son, who never had any contact with Peabody, received an email around this time last year saying the same thing.

Yes all instruments and under and post grad; if it is every year maybe it is deliberate in order to pick up those who are deciding late or whole plans didn’t work out

We didn’t look at or hear from Peabody, but I just imagined they would be overflowing with candidates. I didn’t know it was an annual thing

We got the email too. Crazy

Honestly I think they get students who want the double degree program and then do not get into Johns Hopkins and then don’t go to Peabody so that is why they offer late auditions.

Yes, but admissions rates are macro-data. When applying it’s more useful to know how full/in-demand differents studios/instruments are. They can vary dramatically by instruments and from year to year.

And people should always apply to a couple places they should be able to get in,afford, and learn. Applying to ten schools each of which has a ten percent admissions rate does not equal a 100% offer of admission!

in all areas for Peabody or just for certain instruments?

Wondering if anyone has received news from SUNY Purchase? DS just got an email saying his application was incomplete (missing the Optional SAT or ACT). He emailed back because those were listed as optional and that’s why he didn’t submit them. Thanks.

DS got a response - the email was a gentle reminder for all applicants to make sure all documents were uploaded before final decisions (ā€œyou will hear back from us before the end of Marchā€)
