We had that issue on a small flight from Boston to Cleveland. Kid’s snare drum fit under the seat in front of both of us and other items went in the overhead. Just another option.
@Drummermom2 Cymbal bags are big and not sure you can fit them on board at all. Although if they are the height of a carryon, they might fit in the overhead across a couple of bags that are horizontal.
Question for those who have been through the process before or have some inside knowledge. I know it says that repertoire can be the same for prescreen videos and actual auditions - Is that generally what everyone does? My daughter (VP) was planning on pulling from the 4-5 songs she worked on for her prescreens. Is that ok or is it better to bring something new?
For classical instrumentalists, yes.
Will defer to the vocal performance parents since your daughter is a VP applicant.
Most every school that S has or will be auditioning at has cymbals set up in the audition room, and tells the student that fact either on the school’s website or in the email outlining audition details. Only one school (I can’t remember which) was very specific that they wanted the student to bring cymbals, clutch and even the plastic spacers for the cymbal stands. No school has mentioned a snare.
Recently, when discussing how S’s auditions were going, faculty member at S’s current situation mentioned to me that sometimes the adjudicator doesn’t love having to waste precious time in a cymbal swap, and that sometimes the cymbals a student brings “don’t sound that great in the room”. YMMV
We just got an email from CIM about 15 minutes ago ![]()
CIM and NEC has updated (viola)
Peabody invited my son to audition (jazz/sax) … he’s still waiting on two more schools
My D just got an audition at SMTD/UMich.
Check the portal. She still has not received an email, but it is in the portal.
My son (jazz piano) got invited to audition at Eastman
Thank you! That is exactly what I thought. But 2 of the schools he’s applying to require him to bring his own cymbals. I thought it would waste time and wouldn’t the school have the best cymbals? I’m not sure how we’ll get them on board. Or maybe we just contact the school and say that we’re flying and does he really need to bring them.
Has anyone heard from MSM? I think it’s supposed to be announced tomorrow but, of course, was hoping for earlier.
