Class of 29 Undergrad/Class of 27 Grad: All Things Related to Music School Applications (prescreens/tours/interviews/auditions/supplements/etc)

Our daughter is a Freshman (voice) at Eastman and really loves the school. Glad to answer any questions as well.

Son was told at CCM that he’d hear in April or April 1 (not sure which). He’s percussion. Seems so very late being that his first audition and acceptance was in November! (Belmont University)

I’m wondering if anyone here has experienced this. My daughter is finishing her Masters (vocal performance, Eastman) in May. (Hello from the other side of this process by the way! lol). She has been auditioning for a number of things, including some Artist Diploma programs. One program in particular sent her a very encouraging email the day after her audition, so she’s been anxious to hear from
them - they said it would be mid March. This week they sent her an email that they had created her a University email address for the audition process. That was new. She auditioned at 6 schools for undergrad and 5 for grad and never had any school create her an email address except the ones she attended. We’re trying not to read too much into it at this point. Has anyone had a school they were auditioning for create them an email address during the process? And if so did you get into that program?

Since my kid is nearly 24 and has all this education, I have not been very involved in the process this time around, mostly playing the role of travel agent. But as we reach the point of getting results I am on pins and needles as much as I was back when she was auditioning for undergrad. I have enjoyed checking back in here to read about everyone’s progress since I don’t get to be as involved anymore. Believe it or not I’m actually nostalgic for the days when I was going through this process with her like many of you are now.

My son finally arrived in Philly for his live audition. Being blindsided by the entire application process, I decided to fly in just for moral support. I’m glad I did. I experienced firsthand how hard he has worked to pursue his dream and how nerve-wracking it is to aim for the most competitive opportunities. Ugh, art is not for the faint of heart. There is no way I would ever be able to do that. There isn’t much we as parents can do at this point, other than standing by him with love and support. I feel blessed with the nice weather too.

Me neither! I am in constant awe of all of these kids.

Enjoy Philly. Curtis opera opens Marriage of Figaro tonight. And so many fun restaurants in the vicinity.

Thank you! We very much look forward to the performance tonight. The school offered complimentary tickets, which is very thoughtful and kind. It will certainly be a good stress reliever.

A masters student from our hometown is singing the role of the Count on Friday and Sunday. He was one of my daughter’s vocal coaches the summer before her college audition season:). Great guy. And super talented. As I’m sure they all are.

Son auditioning for MM trumpet performance. Already accepted to Hartt SOM, Jacob’s SOM, Univ of Illinois (verbally accepted with TA position), Has anyone heard from other schools regarding graduate decisions? So far, it seems his grad decisions are coming in faster than when he applied undergrad. The other schools he auditioned for are NEC, Peabody, Northwestern. Thanks in advance !

Crickets here. But my son is only taking 2 grad auditions, one was a few weeks ago and the other next week.
I think both have release dates end of March-April 1.

Does anyone know when transfer decisions are announced relative to regular decision announcements? I presume that like everything else, it may be different for music…

hi everyone! i’m auditioning for BM undergrad and i just got an acceptance letter from UNT. thing is, i wasn’t even informed i had passed the pre screens. prior to receiving the letter i thought they had rejected me. did anyone receive a letter today as well? is it possible they had sent it on accident?

Have you auditioned yet? Often a school will accept an applicant based solely on their academic performance before they even audition. S was accepted at a few schools including Rutgers and Montclair state.

UCONN decisions are out for S at least. Does anyone have any experience with merit money from UCONN, in state or out?

Sorry. :frowning: If it’s any consolation I have been told the number of people who do the NEC double is way smaller than one would imagine. Perhaps this is why.

I read somewhere that some schools will accept you based on prescreen videos without requiring an audition. I don’t remember if UNT is one of them, but it seems like they might be! My son didn’t have to send in a prescreen. He sent in his application, and they replied saying he got an audition. Then he got accepted to the school, but as Pre-music, which is I assume what they call it when your full acceptance is based on an audition that hasn’t happened yet. If yours says “Music” and not “Pre-Music” I think that’s probably a good sign?

Daughter finished her viola audition (undergraduate) at Eastman this afternoon. I am very impressed with the school. It was very organized with sessions and tours throughout the day. A trio performed and we had an opportunity to listen to one of the orchestras practice.
After all viola auditions were done for the day, the viola professors met with the students and the parents. We loved how intimate the meeting was and how down to earth they were. Overall a great day!

Hello, I have a jazz drummer son and we are wrapping up the audition process in New York this weekend. It’s been great to read of all your experiences! Sunday is MSM and Tuesday is NYU jam session.
Good luck to all the New York auditioners this week!
