Cleaning question..toilet seat

I know this is a bit gross, but the toilet seat in one of our bathrooms has turned sort of a pinkish color. It seems to be stained. I don’t think its pink mold since we do keep the seat open and we always run the fan whenever we shower in there. Do you think it’s a reaction from different cleaners?

It could be. Is it wood with a painted coating? If so, the coating could be reacting with chemicals or the coating could be wearing off. I would just replace the seat (if it’s an upscale toilet, you can get a replacement at a plumbing supply store).

wipe it down with an antibacterial/bleach-based cleaner.

I’ll try that first..maybe on a small area.

I think so, I’d have to check for sure. Yeah, I might just get a new toilet seat…

Get a new one with soft close.

Funny I just replaced 2 toilets in my home that came with soft close seats - didn’t realize that meant they are plastic! It doesn’t bother my husband but there is something about a plastic toilet seat that seems kind of commercial, like in a gas station. Debating on getting wood seat replacements which is all we’ve ever known. Do you like your soft close seats better than wood?

Sure do! Honestly, you will get used to the soft close plastic, and you will never look back.

Best thing since the invention of the flush toilet!

And they are easier to clean!

Replace it with a Toto bidet seat. My sister got it for her H and he loves it.

+1 to the soft close no matter what they are made of! My sound sensitive ears are so happy. :toilet:

Absolutely! Less porous and so much easier to clean. Better aesthetics, too IMO.

I used to feel that way until a wooden seat cracked on me. Ouch! Butt pinch. :scream:

I just replaced a toilet seat. I made sure it was plastic. The plastic seats were all more expensive than the comparable wooden ones by the same company.

This thread is bookmarked for future use - when a bored student asks about why something is even worth being discussed here the cafe… I usually refer them to the colonoscopy thread. This is even better to shut them down IMO!

I think the wooden painted toilet seats stain. Maybe it’s the combination of bleach used to clean it with urine splashes?

We’ve replaced all toilets seats at both our primary home and cabin with soft-close seats, and we’ve replaced the toilets themselves with chair-height models. We’ll never look back.

I second the suggestion to get the Toto (or any other integrated bidet) seat when replacing a non soft close seat. You will NEVER go back.

Our cabin toilet came with an integrated bidet seat. Just ewwww… Tried it once. Threw it out for a non-shower soft-close seat. Different strokes.

I’m curious about what part of the bidet experience you found objectionable, if you wouldn’t mind sharing. I’ve actually started getting the “EWWWW” feeling when I use a rest room away from home now; as if I need to shower once I get home :joy:.

It’s kind of hilarious since we’ve only had bidets in our house for the past 3 years
