@Fuse1988 Got it. Sounds like you’ve done your due diligence. I agree, academically the two schools seem pretty similar in many areas. Son is going to major in Civil Engineering or Construction Management (Clemson and UDel are ranked almost the same). I am sure it’d be a much tougher choice for us too, if he got $16K merit from UDel - that’s a substantial savings. Alas, with his stats, that’s not gonna happen. Other factors are less tangible and more of a personal preference. With him being an athlete all his life, Clemson is perfect. He is pretty social too, and I’m worried that he’d have trouble keeping focus at UDel with all the partying going on
One other difference is the relative proximity to big cities - more variety, entertainment, convenience, etc. UDel def has the edge there. Clemson is pretty isolated.
@Britmom5 So sorry you still haven’t heard. Frustrating, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that your son didn’t get in. believe that another batch of decisions were mailed on 2/13 or 14 (according to their instagram story.) So you’ll hear shortly. Sending positive vibes your way.
My son has his interview at IU’s Jacobs School of Music next Saturday, 3/2. We are more optimistic, as JSOM is a bigger music school and accepts more students into their audio engineering/sound production program. They required a separate application, essay and portfolio of his work before being invited to interview. We had already visited IU in the fall, and my son loved it. IU has already accepted him, but now he needs to be accepted into JSOM.
@genesmasher - I know your son is excited about the prospects at Clemson. If he is an athlete, the Clemson athletics and school spirit will be hard to ignore. Let me know what his final decision will be. I am sure it will be a tough one!
We are still waiting as well, no small white envelopes in the mail today, I guess that’s good! Do the acceptance packages show as unreadable mail or not at all in informed delivery?
We had the issue with our transcript being delayed so I’m not surprised we haven’t heard yet. They said they would turn around a response ASAP. Registration hack works as of Tuesday, future tiger still does not. I tried to click through the wait list portal and got a message saying that the ID is not on the wait list. So who knows what his status is! Not losing hope just yet.
Does anyone know when they would follow-up with emails to catch anything that may have been lost in the mail? I’m assuming if no emails have been sent yet it’s because they are still sending acceptance/rejection notices via USPS?
@rightyb My daughter is still waiting as well. Same boat, hack worked for onboarding site but not Future Tiger days. It changed over on Tuesday as well. Checking mail daily…
If you applied before December 1st you should have received something by now. I would recommend calling admissions, as I have heard they will now give decisions out over the phone to those who call. If you applied after Dec 1st I’m not sure, but it may be worth a try!
@genesmasher Last year my daughter’s choice came down to Udel and Clemson. We visited both schools and both campuses are beautiful. She was admitted to the honor college at both schools. At UDEL she was invited to participate in the distinguished scholars weekend and ended up with a $24,000 a year scholarship which was 9K more than she got at Clemson.
However she just liked the vibe better at Clemson. She wanted the big time sports and she did not like the idea of the Udel party school.
After our admitted students visit at Clemson she told me Clemson was the place and for 9K a year I wasn’t going to make her go to her second choice.
Now if she had gotten the full ride at UDEL it might have been a different story…lol
So our son received an email two day ago titled Award Notification, then saying congrats on being accepted and he can view the notification by entering into iRoar. However, he never received any notification that he was accepted to the school and doesn’t have any of the codes needed to login. We have received nothing in the mail yet. Has this happened to anyone else? Have all of the acceptance letters been delivered alreay? Thanks
@jcnd02 perhaps the mail is deleted or it was lost in the mail. Call admissions on Monday and they can help. If it was lost in the mail they will send anither Tigertown Bound envelope so you can have one!
@burghdad Haha great story. Yes, “offer I can’t refuse” is always a factor (when it is on the table). Son also got into a bunch of safety schools - Colorado State, U Missouri, U Alabama, U Arkansas and Iowa State. They are all ~$20K/year less than Clemson after merit, but school rank, prestige and location are more important to us. I guess time will tell if this is the right attitude - maybe we’ll regret not saving money and going to ISU, for example. Party schools scare me (UDel).
Campus feel is very subjective, and some of these schools seem to have very pretty campuses judging from the photos and videos online (we haven’t visited any of his “safeties”). But we did visit Clemson and son liked it enough, and that’s what matters. He also got waitlisted from his #1 choice (VA tech) yesterday, so we are pretty much set on Clemson at this point, even if it’s the most $$ by far. You only go to college once.
My main concern with Clemson is the tiny, remote city it is in. I am worried how son is going to adjust after living in San Diego all his life (2mil+ people and many places to go).
@genesmasher Clemson is a nice little town, but my daughter did feel somewhat isolated as she and her roommate (who is from Irvine CA) do not have a car. Need to go to Anderson for Target…movie theatre etc. We are probably going to let her bring car to school next to make it easier.
I got the same thing a few weeks ago, and I called the admissions office last Friday because it was making me crazy. They said that since the application wasn’t received in full until Feb 10 (transcript didn’t get there in December with the application unfortunately) it would be a week to 10 days from last Friday when I called, before we heard. Today we received an email stating that they have received everything and that now they would be reviewing the application and we’d hear soon. So, the ‘hack’ has really meant nothing for the past few weeks because they are just now reviewing the application so unfortunately I wouldn’t put much weight into it. They were very willing to give me an update though, just gave the CU number and they checked on the status for me.
@rightyb I think the admitted days vary by major. My D got an email. Maybe check your spam folder. Otherwise call Clemson admissions. My D can’t make either of her scheduled days (one filled up quickly), so we’re just going for a normal campus visit and tour, and then scheduled time to meet with someone from her major (Criminal Justice).
