Debating applying in early October or waiting til January, hoping to bring GPA up just a little bit . OOS , whatâs a good ACT score ?
Thatâs a good idea to wait a bit and see if you can raise your GPA. I am unsure of ACT score or if you even need one to submit for admission.
Pet the Clemson Common Data Set, 25%, 50%, and 75% ACT scores of applicants are 28, 30, 32.
Thanks, his original composite falls in that range. He took it again yesterday hoping to raise his English score a little.
Question about the Common App for Clemson. In the activities section there is an option to upload a resume and a personal statement. Will Clemson not see the personal statement submitted in the personal essay section that goes to all colleges? If you want them to review your statement do you need to also upload a copy here?
I think the personal statement can be used to say or explain virtually anything else you want them to know about you but not to reload your common app essay. When my 24 kiddo applied she used it to describe how much fun she had visiting on a football weekend, the energy, the fit of the campus, etc. Basically, she wrote kind of a why Clemson in this space but it can also be used to write about special circumstances. Or your kid might expand on something they bring to the table that would add specifically to the Clemson community. Anecdotally, my kid got in but I doubt this section was the main driver. There are probably plenty of people that leave it blank. Hope that helps. Others can chime in on what they used it for.
I think the WHY Clemson sounds like a good way to respond
Daughter is finishing up the second essay for honors college, will be applying by Oct 15! College of Engineering.
MA resident, IB diploma candidate, 4.2 unweighted (4.3 scale), 1570 SAT.
ECs include hunt seat riding (team co-captain) - excited about Clemsonâs riding facility and team. Also peer tutoring, Resident Advisor (attends a boarding school), tour guide, chorus and a capella group. Hiking is a big activity as well.
Clemson was the first school she got really excited about when we did tours last year! Hope we hear back relatively early. Does anyone have a sense of what date Early Action applicants usually get a decision?
We are planning to use the personal statement from common app and then honors college has an additional âwhy majorâ essay. Is this not what others are doing?
Last year EA decisions came out mid December. Most applicants were deferred to the mid February decision. They sent an email and said that decisions would be available at 6pm on a particular date.
You may want to check in with Clemson admissions directly for more direction. Not something worth guessing on. Last year our admissions counselor said that they âgenerally do not take anything from senior year into accountâ. Iâm sure there are situations where they would but itâs important to know in advance what and how to do that.
I had one kid apply last year. My second child is applying this year. We are OOS.
4.8GPA, 6 APs, 14 DE courses, non-ranking high school
lots of community service/volunteer hours, part-time job, involved in same sport for 14 years showing growth into leadership with teaching classes
planning to major in Health Science and would like to be in the honors college
Question should she apply test optional - ACT score 28
General rule of thumb is if test scores fall below the 50% then do not submit but others may disagree.
This is what we understand about Clemson essays: If you are not appying honors, the personal statement from the Common App is not read. In that case you can copy it into the Clemson specific personal essay space. Does anyone know if the Additional Information (challenges and circumstances) will be read? We did reach out to admissions, but waiting to hear back. Did anyone else get clarification?
