Accepted OOS for Pre-Business. 4.25 W 1320 SAT. Many ECs, non-profit work, volunteer, Varsity captain, 8 APs including Calc, Chem, AP History, Comp Sci…multiple coding and tech classes, Peer Leader, NHS, solid essays. Congrats to all who got in! A deferral isn’t a denial. A few students from my HS were deferred last year and then were eventually accepted.
Engineering
Daughter IS accepted to Health Science. Palmetto Fellows, 5.433w/4.0uw, 1420 SAT, top 1% of class.
Son accepted OOS, 4.0 UW, 1540 SAT. Engineering. No wording anywhere about scholarship. Anyone’s letter say anything about that. Two years ago, merit was listed with the acceptance. Not the amount but that you would be receiving some at a later date.
OOS son admitted for Business, Fall start. 1470 / 33. 3.85 UW.
My son’s letter didn’t say anything about that either. I was looking for it but zilch.
Keep in mind that it isn’t just in state vs out of state. The actual state matters. Clemson wants to show that they have students from as many states as possible. An application from Wyoming, for example, would be more likely to be accepted than anyone from North Carolina or New Jersey. There are soooo many variables that they take into consideration. Grades, class rank, course rigor, state the applicant is coming from are 4 of the top things they consider.
Daughter admitted! Business, 98.5/100 GPA, 1410 SAT, 10 APs, OOS (NY). No mention of merit.
Daughter admitted, OOS. Business. 3.8UW/4.6W, lots of APs, top 10% of class, Test optional. Her older sister is currently a 2nd year at Clemson. I’m sure that helped, as well.
DS stats for acceptance OOS/Business = 4.04W/3.9UW. 1510 (790 math). 7 APs. LOTS of ECs, volunteering, work, varsity sports, etc. Very well rounded resume.
Daughter deferred. OOS (GA). 3.7 uw / 28 ACT. Tons of EC and leadership. It was expected but still stinks.
My son was accepted- OOS, pre-business, 1300 SAT and 4.04 gpa. 7 APs and 4 DE. Sister is a sophomore at Clemson so that may have helped. Essay was amazing! Great extra curriculars too.
My oldest daughter had no mention of merit in her acceptance two years ago, but then got merit in March.
At the risk of counting chickens, for kids that are deferred and are subsequently accepted in RD. What are their chances for either honors or merit $?
I’m assuming not as good as EA but I’m also assuming not zero either?
I think it’s the same, either EA or RD. They don’t give much from what I hear. What I think I have observed with Clemson is that they like GPA and class rank, but I also think they take the top GPAs via EA of those that apply from the same highschool… and another batch will get in RD. They give you the opportunity to add more to your profile - resume, LOR etc.
Deferred. OOS.
Clemson states on their website that about 15% of students are offered some sort of money “from $500 to full cost of attendance”.
I know a lot of kids who were accepted with no class rank - but had high stats and test scores. Legacy and where you are from helps as well. As someone else mentioned - a state with small representation will help in the process. And of course - the major applied to in some cases!
Kid accepted OOS into Animal and Veterinary Sciences. First school they’ve received a decision from, so they were both excited and relieved ![]()
Accepted. In State, Graphic Communications, 4.0 (4.83 weighted), Ap’s, dual enrollment, athlete.
