The way I am thinking about it, a deferral isn’t really a decision; they are deferring the decision.
As frustrating as it is, a deferral isn’t bad at all - better than a rejection. My son was deferred from Miami two years ago - eventually got in - and is living his best life. It’s teaching all of our kids a lesson in patience (and us too).
Best of luck to everyone! The children will land where they’re supposed to land!
And I read somewhere else by March 1st…then waitlist can work its way in and that can be until June 1st!
Last year deferred students were notified March 1st
I still have the button as of 9:36am est, and below are my stats, I’m freaking out thinking I’m rejected or deferred and regret even checking.

What @startId said is probably true, but it could also mean that they have not uploaded your specific decision yet. A lot of schools do the revieiw on paper and don’t upload until the last few days. So more might go away today.
You have great, great stats! Be proud of them. These schools have just become super-competitive lately. It’ll all work out Sometimes a deferral is good because it allows you to visit other schools and enjoy the experience.
I think you have a good chance, but you will probably have to wait for RD. They only accept the very top students EA, it is easier to get in RD.
I don’t have the edit button here are my stats:
- OOS
- 4.8 W / 3.9 UW
- top 1% of my class, valedictorian 9/10th grade
- founded nonprofit
- have a podcast
- published a book
- 6 APS and all honor classes
- varsity tennis 2 years
- applied test optional
- strong essay + good extracurriculars
My stats are similar to yours and I have the button! I’m in state though.
In the interest of keeping hope alive, my oos kid’s buttons are gone, and she’s realistically a deferral at best. At least if scores are the main factor at this stage. So could also mean a denial.
Maybe the button could mean bridged? Or summer start?
Countdown to release: Winter Countdown – Countdown to Dec 14, 2023 6:00 pm in Clemson
I don’t think so. They only give those out in RD I think based on last years info.
True, except I believe the deferral comes first and the summer or bridge offer with the RD decisions.
Hang in there!!
Your mom is a rockstar for calling! And it’s easy for the admission lady to say don’t worry about it. lol. So do we think all decisions are in? Or maybe there is still hope of some today?
My edit term button just disappeared in the past few minutes!
So definitely could be they just disappear after a decision is made?
What is everyone’s ranking? My kid is 9%
I think so.
My rank is 4/19, but 5/21 was sent to Clemson since I applied before the rerank
