I have a daughter at U of SC. Decided to go there since she was deferred/WL at several schools and still didn’t know come March. She couldn’t handle the non commit. She loves it there!
Their yield rate for out of state students has run higher than expected actually for the past two years. Their in-state yield rate was down slightly this year, so that might be where the confusion is coming in. As a state institution, they do make in-state students a priority, so while it is more difficult to be admitted as an out-of-state student, they are not purposely denying if the student meets the requirement for the major.
It was more disappointing for me (a UGA grad) than it was for her. She applied ED at another school and we find that out tomorrow. So she hasn’t slept in a month nervous about it. Hoping for good news for all those praying to be Tigers. And for all us parents just hoping that our kids’ dreams come true!
Our daughter was EA to UGA and went on her campus visit the following week. She was told UGA looks at SAT/ACT almost last. They are not as concerned about how you did one day for 3 hours on a test. They put more emphasis on the essay…they get a look at what type of student you will be, what you do outside of the classroom., and your grades/class rank. Most colleges are looking at SAT and ACT less and less and how you will make their school better. So many students that are deferred will get into the school of their choice. This is a marathon not a sprint.
We were told the same. My daughter is top 5% in a very competitive class/ 4 5s on APs, with really great extracurriculars. Either way, it was more of our top choice for her since we are in GA and she is a Zell Miller Scholar. The deferral has allowed us to get more on board about her potential ED, so that is a benefit haha.
Did you se u of SC comes out tomorrow?
What makes you think that? Care to share stats?
Interested in what her ED was? I think those that ED UGA were definitely looked at more. My daughter has two friends that applied one was ED and one was EA (the one that her number 1 is Clemson as well). Their stats were almost identical. Even all the same ECs actually funny because my daughters ECs match theirs too. They do a lot together. Anyways, the one that ED was admitted and the one that was EA was deferred.
1330 SAT, 3.75 W GPA from extremely competitive HS, lots of honors/APs. The GPA is going to bite her. Part of me wishes she took easier classes in HS. Kids from her high school with 3.8s and lower SATs did get in last year, which is the only thing giving me any hope at all…
But UGA doesn’t have ED?
That is not bad. Yes, there is higher. But this is not low. Or something I would look at and think for sure deferral. No different than ours really because we do have a 4.0 uw but we did TO. so in my mind thats comparable.
You are very kind, my new friend!
Yep! You are correct I stand corrected. Disregard what I just said. We did not apply there so I was assuming wrong. So in that case I have no idea how they picked one girl over the other. Only difference was SAT score and it was by 10 points difference. Maybe their letters or rec or essay I guess idk
My dtr is the same, but you never know, which is why she applied.
So many people on these boards seems to be high stats. I think a lot of those with more “normal” stats don’t want to post!
Where else did she apply?
Yall shouldn’t be worried!! I literally have a 4.3W, 3.5UW gpa. 27 ACT, didn’t submit SAT. I’ve done a lot of extracurriculars. I’ve already taken one class through clemson, 3 APS, at least 12 honors classes. 4 clubs, volunteer work, good essay, 3 LOR. But they’re only going to look at my grades Im afraid. Im also in state, my sister goes to Clem, and my grades improved significantly over a year
I am so hoping this is true…
And? Any scoop?
Wondering the same?
