This is what we are hoping. Not that grades are bad, but my child is involved in a ton outside the classroom, 2 different types of cheer, company / competition dancer since age 6, part time job, tons of service work in the community, ALL the clubs. Her essay I think is good but probably not as great as others. But her essay you can tell is for Clemson, its not like she used this essay to apply to other schools. She talked about why Clemson is where she wants to be ect. So Im hoping they read that and know how much we want her to be there!
I think it is true. My son was accepted EA to UGA last year. He was in the middle on the average EA SAT scores, at the bottom of the UGA EA GPA and below on the number of average APs. He otherwise was a very strong contender with everything else he had done in HS and I believe 100% he got in based on a wholistic review. No one in his HS had been admitted in over 12 years- and a couple had had higher stats and didnāt get in. So I hope this helps the rest of you.
Does she do sideline and All Star? My D26 did All Star for many years but gave it up to focus on High School cheer and coaches an All Star team now.
16 schoolsā¦we are moving to Charleston soon and luckily my dtr likes all 4 that she will hear from today and tomorrow, even with 3.6w, she will be fine where she ends up:
Clemson, U of SC, C of C, CCU, U of SCB, ECU, JMU, Boulder lol, GSU, Xavier, Marquette, LSU, WVU, UNCW, UCONN, GMU.
We will not get any FA, but Merit would be nice and in state is great, for her sophomore year.
That made me laugh. S24 has Boulder on his list too- very random with all his other mostly SEC school list. BUT it is a popular school at our Northeast high school. They also have the latest notification date of all his schools so thereās that- oh and they are $20K more per year
I just had a bad thought. Did I read somewhere on here that Clemson doesnāt look at the common app essay? I donāt believe my daughter cut and pasted it for Clemson specifically. If thatās the case, weāre toast.
I had said no, you cannot apply, but surprise surprise I gave inā¦I donāt like the 60+k/yr, but we will seeā¦super competitive this year, but my dtr can see herself in that type of school and town so we will seeā¦it is funny, and her list is mostly all over the place!
We have some similar schools. My daughter got into Penn State and a few others. I think sheād be very happy at Penn State.
Congrats!
She actually has done 3 but only did 2 the last 3 years, she did all star, sideline and competition cheer with her highschool. I guess for some schools they may not consider sideline and competition as two different sports but our highschool does. It is not the same girls on both sqauds. Some do overlap and do both but some only do one or the other.
Our high school has a varsity sideline team and then certain athletes make mat for competition so it is similar in terms of having a sideline only team and a competition team (mine was on both). Huge commitment that is for sure. Company dancer as well- it is A LOT and hopefully the schools recognize that. They give up a lot to do these sports/activities.
VERY true! I really wish they realized how much. In the fall she would have cheer practices Monday through Thursday from 3-8pm and then Friday nights were football games and Saturdays were for cheer comps. Then as a company dancer - luckily the dance studio owners daughter is a cheerleader too so we would have dance from 8-9 after cheer and then Sundays we would have dance from 1pm- until 5pm. She worked around cheer. Thank goodness! But it is basically a full time job. And dont get me started on trying to fit in school work. She did 3 dual enrollment classes this semester and 2 regular classes at the highschool. We are on a 4 block schedule. I had no idea that she signed herself up for an extra class and could have killed her. I feel like she didnt sleep for 4 months straight because she didnt have time.
Brag moment - She has been on the mat for comp cheer the last 3 years and her school has been region champs for the last 3 years. So it is nice to see that although you are sacrificing a lot of time and health that it has paid off
I honestly dont know. In our case I hope they do. But if you look at what they say is important when deciding I think for Essay it says not important or maybe even not considered. So not 100% sure how they view it.
Other than Clemson , Georgia and South Carolina , may I ask which other schools are coming out ?
Coastal and C of C
Notre Dame and Virginia is Friday, Vandy is Today
Marquette, alsoā¦we are hoping for a SC school but TBD!
