During the app cycle two years ago, it was awful how many of my son’s peers in CA with impressive CVs and 4.4 + GPAs were denied or waitlisted from majority of UC’s.
Texas is mandatory 90% native Texans.
Yeah - how about a cap on the number of schools you can apply to?

The Common Application (et al) encourages excess applications. Many colleges are responding by adding extra essay prompts for their specific institution which curbs the numbers of applications.

Is the Common App a for-profit entity?
I am not sure. But admissions offices are making a pretty good amount on application fees for 50-60,000 students

So true! They are making bank so for that alone they will probably never put a cap on it!
Yes, and so is College Board. For profit or non-profit, making $$$.
I think the best use of this thread is to keep it apolitical please. Some of these comments are offensive.

That’s not really super political and they do have a point.
I get why schools do that to protect the instate population, but it’s rough when you are coming from a severely under served state like Nevada. Two legit 4 year options in the state. UNLV and University of Nevada Reno. My daughter has no interest in either or going to school in CA.

Does anyone know what it’s gonna look like when the portal is updated at 6 o’clock? Will there be another button where it says awaiting decision?
I think it will say “Status Update”, I can’t remember from 2 years ago when my son applied.
