well yes, that too. but North Carolina caps out of state, Clemson not so much. and helps explain the plummeting acceptance rates in recent years, that actually look similar to schools like UGA, Virginia Tech, etc
True but North Carolina and South Carolina are very different states.
NC has double the population of SC, 10 million to 5 million. So when NC says that enrollment at UNC has to be a certain percentage of in state residents, they have a much larger pool of students to choose from. SC colleges must pull from out of state in order to make the enrollment numbers, that is if they want to be top rated academically.
Of the states you mention (Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina), SC is the poorest and has the biggest population challenge and revenue challenge.
yes, makes sense as the reason that they have a higher percentage of OOS applicants. Regardless, the cause has led to good effect, in terms of competitiveness, acceptance rates, and reputation.
PLENTY of kids from CA at UVA and UMich. Itās far from āunheard ofā
Thank you this is very helpful!
Withdraw application and print decision letter buttons are gone. Decisions are coming out tomorrow, correct?
Oops. Looked back and saw everyone has buttons missing. Sorry about duplicate post.
Yes, tomorrow at 6 pm
Thanks!
But they are happy to be lumped in with USC.
Nothing to add to this discussion. Just needed to say that I am DYING for tomorrow at 6:00 to get here. DYING. Clemson is my daughterās first choice. And also the only school sheās gotten excited about. Iām thinking sheās got a 50/50 shot. So tomorrow will either bring extreme happiness from her, or a downward roller coaster that Iāve been trying to prepare for. Iāll cross my fingers for all of us with emotional teenagers!
I am right there with you! Clemson is my daughterās top choice as well. She so wants to be with her brother who is a Sophomore there. Sheās attended so many dance clinics with the Rally cats and Tiger dancers so will totally stink if she does not get accepted but we keep telling her itās in Godās hands. Regardless, tomorrow cannot get here fast enough.
Wishing your daughter the very best. Itās been such a tough year. GOOD LUCK!
Wishing your daughter the very best, too!
I thought Virginia Tech was fairly easy to get into compared to Clemson? No? My son decided not to apply, but the accpetance rate is 64% for our school and Clemson is 38%.
I am also extremely nervous although Iām thinking it might not be a yes - my DS applied test optional and now Iām thinking we should have done tutoring and focused on the SAT score - heās a huge athlete and leadership skills and a good GPA (3.7UW) but not sure that will be enough at all based on last years boards and the acceptance rate.
Good luck to everyone though!
My DD is in the same boat. 3.8UW, high rigor, tons of leadership, varsity sports, paid work and community service but applied test optional. Sheās pretty sure she will get waitlisted at best.
Iām glad weāre in this together! Good luck everyone
Wish we at least had button clues to get us through until tomorrow evening! In-state kid deferred with decent GPA 3.5/4.4 and strong SAT 1460.
I am 200% in this same boat. 50/50 and absolutely the #1. Not sure what to expect at 6:01p.
