Newer to these forums, not sure how to follow so it stays on my list. I have a junior interested in Clemson. We are from the Midwest so curious to learn more about the school. Thanks.

S25 applied last week (common app). Still waiting for portal.
GPA 3.98 u/w; 4.38 w (I don’t know how to do the South Carolina GPA conversion); 31 ACT (taking again in sept); 10 APs, 3 DE. 1 honors as honors isn’t really a thing at our school.
EC/volunteering/work: mostly revolve around sports (football and basketball (captain))
Major: economics in Powers

Good luck to all!

I believe this is only the 3rd year Clemson is doing EA, in the past couple of years, many get deferred, most EA acceptances seem to be based on high GPA and scores. EA is important for housing selection.

D25 applied 8/1, for housing choice.
In state
GPA: 4.0 u/w, 5.08 w (2 AP’s, 3 currently)
Rank: top 3% of mid-size hs
SAT 1200, taken last year (school counselor told her to submit)
Should qualify for Palmetto Fellows for SC
Two sports, honor societies, no leaderships, lots of school academic awards
Major: Biology and health/nutrition (very confusing what to choose because of capped majors). She wants to explore health careers.

Applying to U of SC and Furman. Not sure of first choice yet. Touring all in the next few months and hoping for good merit/financial aid.

D25 just applied! GPA 4.0 u/w, 4.4 w. 33 ACT, 1480 SAT. 7 AP classes and extra curriculars focused heavily on business. She will be an Accounting major, and she is an OOO student.

S25 is planning to apply tonight - senior year schedules don’t get posted until 6pm today, and he’s not sure he’s going to get everything he requested, so we’re waiting to see what happens before he submits. Clemson is, at the moment, his first choice.

GPA 4.0 u/w; 4.2 w. 35 ACT, Five APs completed, four on the schedule for this year. Lots of honors classes. He’s been on the varsity indoor and outdoor track teams since his freshman year and he’s an Eagle Scout. He wants to major in Construction Management. we are out of state.

I’m hoping that he gets some merit aid (crossing fingers) to make Clemson more in line with our state flagships that have the same program (we are in VA, and as much as I wish for the in-state tuition, this kid just doesn’t love VA Tech as much). I don’t expect Clemson to meet that number, but to get closer to it would be nice.

S25 OOS (CA). 3.86 UW / 4.42 W; 6 APs, several honors, and a handful of DE/DC/College courses; SAT 1440; ECs: Varsity sports / paid work / volunteering; Major choice: Bioengineering or Business. Older brother (S23 with slightly lower stats) was accepted EA in molecular bio major, did not receive merit scholarship (just under SAT cut-off of 1400), but loved Clemson and matriculated last year (class of 2027). He’s very happy there thus far-

Confirming here that the sooner you apply it could eventually help with housing assignment/selection if granted admission?

How many optional essays can one upload once they receive access to the Clemson portal?

Housing choices are based 100% on when the application was submitted.

Question on “test optional”. DD was planning to not submit at all (OOS) but now having others tell us that Clemson prefers to have a test score. Anyone have any experience or thoughts?

Have you looked at Clemson’s common data set for last year? (could not link) It will give her a good idea if she should submit or not. If her #'s are high, it will help and may get her merit money. Last year, SAT composite: 25th percentile (1240), 50th percentile (1320), 75th percentile (1400). Clemson ranks rigor of coursework, rank, and GPA as very important.
That said, my dd did submit a 1200 score because that still qualifies her for merit in SC as an instate student. If she had to do it again, she would have gone TO in the early admission round, then add scores if she got deferred for regular decision.
Hope that helps!

Agree with above. I’d also look at last years’ threads here. In general, what I noticed at a lot of the schools S25 is interested in, good test scores helped in EA and I saw more kids get deferred who were TO. Of course, TO kids did also get in. When we visited Clemson in the spring, they recommended taking the ACT/SAT.

Looked at last year’s thread and couldn’t find much. Wondering how many got accepted with their 2nd choice major. Kid is waffling between engineering and business and trying to determine best strategy for admission. Thinking put engineering 1st and business 2nd as it would be easier to change major later to business if that’s how he wants to go. But engineering admission is more competitive. HIgh stats, 34 ACT, 4.25W, no class rank, but OOS.

Was wondering myself about the competitivebess of certain majors vs others. Say you indicate one major and get accepted. Can you change your mind after enrollment?

It depends on the major, some are closed.
