Clemson University Early Action for Fall 2025 Admissions

Yes, they’ve made waitlist offers in May before.

My student was one of the waitlisted and told they’d find out in June, but then received an email (yet to be opened), with a status update. Anyone else get a status update sooner then the stated June deadline? I’m wondering if good or bad news while I wait for them to open it?!

We had a status update today, but for something different. He got in EA but was deferred for Honors. His update today was to tell him how strong the honors cohort was and that he’s been waitlisted for Honors and will find out after May 1 if he gets in.

Good luck! Hoping this is the good news your student is waiting for!

out of curiosity, did you accept the EA admission and pay the deposit prior to their conclusion about honors?

No, didn’t accept. We can’t accept until we know the merit aid amount (we are OOS). Right now, even if we get top merit aid, I don’t know if we can let S25 go. My husband and I are both Feds and, frankly, both afraid we’re going to lose our jobs. If that happens then S25 really should be at our less pricey in-state option. Which is killing me, because he loves Clemson. Anyhoo, sorry for the tangent. Although we didn’t commit, he did send a version of a letter of continued interest to the honors admissions team to talk about how much he was interested and why being in honors was important to him.

That all makes a lot of sense, and I wish you all the best of luck as you navigate through this. I really do think there are opportunities to offset some (but of course not all) of the OOS tuition costs e.g. off-campus cost of living, depending on cost of living at in-state schools you are considering. For example, at most U of CA schools of interest to us, cost of living (rent) in surrounding areas is extremely high. Because of that, I think the net difference for us with our S23 at Clemson is $5-7K/year compared to in-state. Our S25 will get some merit, so if he also attends there it would be even more equivalent. I noticed that estimated COA at UCs GOES UP after freshman/dorm year, whereas ours has decreased. Compromises such as not taking a car (parking/gas/maintenance), not having as many meal points (which tend to get consumed by Chick-Fil-A and the like), cost-sharing through part time job, etc can also help. But I’m also on a tangent - I asked the question because we are in the same position of an EA acceptance, still awaiting in-state decisions, but wondering whether accepting and paying deposit might sway an honors decision (because of perception of intent). Likely not, but the thought had crossed my mind.

does anyone know when Clemson releases merit?

S25 acceptance letter says “by end of March”

I’m so sorry you are in this situation. Our federal workers deserve so much better than this cruel and irrational treatment.

No one has seen merit yet, right? Our window of wanting to wait and see is rapidly closing since every other school in the running has laid everything out there weeks ago…

Agreed

Continued radio silence, continued frustration with that silence.

Do they have ANY idea how many students they are holding up because they have not released merit awards yet? Thousands upon thousands of students cannot make a commitment because of the lack of financial
Info. Not to mention which the chain reaction for other students once decisions are made.

Clemson is always one of the latest schools to release merit. And as others have said, it’s not much when it does come.

Well, I broke down and finally emailed the financial aid office to ask about timing. I asked if they would release merit aid award amounts before Tigertown Takeover on 3/29. I know Clemson doesn’t give much, but I’d like to have an idea of what we’re getting in to before we go to the cost and expense of the travel to get there, and taking off of work and school on Friday, particularly since it’s getting to be the end of the quarter and S25 is scheduled to have tests that day that will be hard to do early or makeup later.

If I hear anything back, I’ll let folks know.

I just looked back and my D22 received her financial info from Clemson on 3/20/22 so I’m expecting my son’s to come sometime this week.

Hi - when your son was admitted (was it EA?) - did he/you get notice that merit was coming but just no indication of how much? I cannot remember if my S25 got notice in December about merit coming…

Yes, his decision letter noted that he would receive merit, and we’d be advised by the end of March.

I believe that’s what my son’s said but I can’t remember, and anyway, doesn’t December seem like a lifetime ago?
