Clinton Correctional Facility Saga

I’m sure the law enforcement agencies are getting frustrated so they’re spatting among themselves. Cuomo is also undoubtedly putting pressure on them.

Canada is only like a 20-minute car ride from Dannemora.

And an article about Cuomo’s negative impact on the search. I know that the NY Post is not the most reputable news source but some of the details sound possible.

@emilybee I don’t envy your H working for Cuomo!

I don’t know why they would think getting in Canada would help them…I think they could hide and move around easier in US. Canada has only a few really big cities for them to blend into and hide, they’d stick out like sore thumbs in most small Canada towns. Too, Canada doesn’t have too many east-west highways going across Canada going out west…not too many routes to drive on and to evade cops easily. Where can they go anyway that they won’t be hunted down or turned in for ransom money? Maybe catch a boat to Syria or some war zone like that that they would find would be worse than being back in prison?

And people do not realize that the border with Canada is by no means fortified, relatively speaking. Sure, there are sentries and gates from Detroit to Windson, ON and from the Buffalo NY area; but there are parts, particularly out west, where the border essentially abuts someone’s backyard or is nothing but woods and brush. You could walk across without being detected and they used to catch folks from third party nations doing that from time to time when I was a kid in the PNW.

LW, a similar point about that backyard border was made by a CNN reporter last week, who demonstrated it.

It sounds as if you and lizard have completely different opinions about this.

Some interesting speculation here:

Fred Dicker is a long time reporter covering Albany. He is definitely not a fan of Andrew but knowing what the Gov. is like it’s entirely plausible.

A spokesperson told reporters last week that they would not tip their hand about any new leads they had. They don’t want to give the escaped convicts any information in case they are watching the news. This could mean we won’t learn any new details until they decide to release them.

It may also mean the next new piece of information will be how they captured/killed them.

Oh, I hope so! – and that it’s soon!!

I read this morning that they think the prison employee who help them escape knows more than she let on. If true, she’s still helping them.

If true, she’s more of an idiot than any of us can imagine.

I would doubt that, @Iglooo . All the other reports have said that M&S told her only what they needed her to know to manipulate her. Most likely they had planned to kill her after using her, and it’s very possible that they fed her some false information as well. I’m convinced that her attorneys (past & current) have urged her strongly to be completely forthright for her own good when it comes to the law. Look, she’s in trouble no matter what. Say the 2 get caught. They may eventually try to have her killed, from prison, just for her cooperation – even if that never amounts to leads which captured them.

My doorbell rang yesterday and the first thing I did was go to the window to see who was outside. That’s what living in Upstate NY/Northern Vt/Canadian Border means until this is over.

I can’t imagine what families near the prison are going through. Saranac schools were closed for two days last week. The worst civilian job near the prison must be the gas station attendant working all alone on the night shift.

In the PNW there are miles and miles of undeveloped border areas, but there are motion detectors and cameras catching people smuggling in drugs and also people who want to stay here. I don’t know about the NE, but in the NW it would be difficult to sneak across the border.

I couldn’t find the article I read this morning. Here’s something similar tho not as concrete,

She discussed hiring them to kill her husband,

^ That’s old news. Been on the tube for days now.

Well, finally! Several days ago I lamented the idiocy of a “honor block” for manipulative, hardened criminals. Gee, it took the facility only how many days (today) to finally abolish it? What brain surgeons.

That should perhaps be the biggest scandal of this entire affair. Add the benefits, and it starts to explain the absolute waste of resources that incarceration represents in our country. Only Detroit does better.
