Clinton Correctional Facility Saga

Although I think the other news stories this week are much more historic, I think this story will probably be historic. I I I think it will also be a movie.

I think there will be a movie too.

There are plenty of twists in this story already for a movie plot…

I hope any profits made in the movie will go to help defray the costs of searching for those two felons, but I strongly doubt that would ever happen. :frowning:

The real chase is more interesting to me than any movie, since I love true crime and follow it. And this thread is only about this story, nothing else. Anyone can move along to different threads if you have other interests.

I sure do admit to enjoying some fictional fugitive stories, including the movie by the same name with Harrison Ford, which I’ve probably seen at least 5 times, and Shawshank, which I’ve seen probably 11 times, without exaggeration. But real crime? Far more interesting. The fascinating part to me, whether a single murder or an attempted escape, is that every criminal thinks he’ll get away with it, but few do. (I believe there are about 150 current fugitives still not captured, but considering how many have actually managed escapes in the first place, the ones remaining are drops in the bucket. Forensics (for single & serial crimes) and location technology (for escapes) are just so advanced now.

In any case, time to clean up the joke that’s been the CCF. Looking forward to that aftermath. Have a nice evening everybody.

Not sure where the surrender news was coming from, as none of the major news sources have reported that. I agree with doschicos that this story will be a flash in the pan, compared to the historic news that has been made this week. No comparison at all.

It’ll be quickly forgotten and out of the news except for the firings of Comm of DOCCS and Superintendent of Dannemora - which will come shortly after the 2nd guy is caught and will only get local attention.

The entire prison management team needs to be removed. The problem is that it is most likely that every prison runs this way.

I’m sure that heads will roll. If anyone has noticed there has not been a word from any DOCCS officials since this started - though the commish was at the presser last night. Andrew’s head must be ready to explode.

On the other hand, @tom1944 , this may shed more of a spotlight on the running of at least NYS prisons. While I know there is “favor-trading” in prisons, the level at this one seems, from reports, a bit much.

How come all you New Yorkers aren’t out there now with posse looking for prison escapee?

I’m not a New Yorker, only a life-long wannabe one. :))

New York State is HUGE!!! And the woods this guy is hiding in is the largest area of undeveloped woods east of the Mississippi. So I’ll leave it to the pros.

Who’s leaving it to the amateurs?

“How come all you New Yorkers aren’t out there now with posse looking for prison escapee?”

Speaking for myself, because they are six hours away from me, I Iast shot a gun in summer camp over forty years ago, and that was a BB gun, and I would not be very intimidating, or much of an obstacle, to a convicted murderer.

I cheerfully nominate you to go in my place, as my champion.

I love true crime story too but it better be in a book. When it gets too scary I can close the book.

What if Matt has murdered Sweat? No one would be surprised if Matt decided to kill and dismembered him, if they had any argument or different opinion on something. He has done something similar several times before.

If this is indeed the case, it may be even harder to locate Sweat. It is easier to locate a live person than a dead, dismembered body in the wild.

Does my imagination run away?

Did they say whose blood was on the boot (or socks) that was found in the cabin?

Sweat having been murdered by Matt has been brought up in the press, but I doubt it. There’s no evidence that Matt harbored some kind of animus against him.

I think it improved their odds of staying at large when there was two of them together. Just one person alone would have fewer resources, but who knows how those two thought/think?

They were in a very stressful environment. Did they “share” the same woman (albeit at a different time period)? What a mess here! Any of these could be a source of their conflict. One or both could be a psychopath and their behavior could be very different from what we could ever imagine.
