Clinton's Sniper Fire

You may be right Mercymom, but I was so fascinated by Governor Richardson’s facial hair that I couldn’t judge very well.

They’d be quite a pair.

CBS documents Hillary’s trip:

zoosermom, I noticed the facial hair too! He’s always been clean shaven before, right? I mean, I’ve never noticed him not be, at least. Yesterday I saw an article about all the writers and actors/tv people who grew beards during the strike, and now I think, well here’s what Richardson’s been doing since he dropped out of the race!

“you’ll probably find out prior to the GE 'cause my guess is Richardson will be Obama’s VP running mate.”

May be, but 100% minority ticket = 100% defeat.

Gore grew a beard after he “lost” the election, too. Campaign experts will tell you that facial hair will cost a candidate 5% of the vote - seriously. That’s why I discount the VP theory. He’d have shaved if that was actually on the table.

DId you see how complicated and detailed the beard was? I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. very dashing. Ok. Prissy. But maybe he thought he was dashing.

Governor Richardson seems to be taking great pleasure in telling all and sundry that he will not be joining Mr. Carville in the gutter. (Just in case you were wondering what his plans are for the immediate future, they apparently don’t include wading in the gutter.)

Oh, PLEASE!

How is Obama a racist?

Obama, if you have forgotten, is HALF-white, has a half-Asian sister and other members in his family from Africa to Asia.

Think about it - you just agreed w/ Rush Limbaugh!

I’m guessing another Cabinet position for him.

And, yes, the facial hair was quite interesting. I liked it but thought the hair was too long in back, kind of shaggy looking.

“they apparently don’t include wading in the gutter.”

Darn ! I was visualizing two pigs rolling in the gutter together.

Rumsfeld, Albright, and Co?

Are you sure we should not replace the name that goes with the NotthatBright baleful scepter from Wellesley on this one? Try Clinton instead of Rumsfeld.

“Darn ! I was visualizing two pigs rolling in the gutter together.”

ahahaha. So was Carville.

Hillary’s Minor Blip. (…and if you believe this, have I got a great deal for you.;))

From USA today: "Now let me tell you what I can remember, OK – because what I was told was that we had to land a certain way and move quickly because of the threat of sniper fire. So I misspoke – I didn’t say that in my book or other times but if I said something that made it seem as though there was actual fire – that’s not what I was told. …

I think that, a minor blip, you know, if I said something that, you know, I say a lot of things – millions of words a day – so if I misspoke, that was just a misstatement."

Misspoke? That’s a riot. She’s lying. She embellished, got caught, and now she is backpedaling.

I’m sorry, but if I ever had to walk/run somewhere under sniper fire, I’d remember the intimate details for the rest of my life (unless I was on the front line of a war and this occured daily or weekly, and each incident all ran together). Especially if one of my daughters was with me.

What I do wonder is, was there another occasion where she actually was told they’d be under sniper fire, and she confused the two events as she originally spoke? If that’s the case, I can probably forgive the confusion. If there was never a situation where she encountered running from sniper fire, she’s lost my respect, big time. Although I’m an ardent Obama supporter, I do think the media is having a field day with every ‘off’ recollection that all the candidates have had. None of them are going to be perfect in their memories, but she should acknowledge what she knows now as either an embellishment or confusion with another situation where there was sniper fire.

Teriwtt makes a good point about Chelsea’s presence. For me, taking a child somewhere that dangerous for what? reason would show such poor judgment as to disqualify someone for the presidency. So she’s either a lying sack of , or she’s a horrible mother. Not great choices there. She needs to go away and take her husband with her.

Teriwtt, I don’t think so. I think her memory of being told that there might be snipers in the general area just kind of “blossomed.”

To me this is just sad. I’m about a 60-40 Obama/Clinton guy myself, primarily concerned with issues of November electability, and I have to say this event causes me a lot of unease. I can conceive of Clinton being the Dem. candidate come fall, and this will hurt. I’m not bothered by things like Romney’s “marching with MLK” story - as a lawyer I see people’s malleable memories at work every day, and it’s very rarely a case of intentional lying - but a lot of people take those things and really tee off on them. I can see endless loops of her speech and the media video of her on the tarmac playing over and over, and what can you say about it? She did say it, and it wasn’t true.

That was my first thought, too – about Chelsea. Like I would let my kid out of the plane in midst of sniper fire???

I think the reason the media is having so much with this one is that it buys into her calculating persona. Some people you’d let have a pass on a mistake like that, but seeing as how she’s written about this incident in books it appears her new memory was calculated and not a mistake.

I wonder why, if Senator Clinton is so blindingly brilliant, she thinks she’ll get away with this stuff. Surely she has to know she’ll be caught and ridiculed. Remember when my side went to Kerry events and screamed “flip flop?” We should visit her events and yell “liar, liar, pants on fire.” Ok, not really, but it’s fun to think about. It was a serious question though. Why would Senator Clinton say these things, knowing that she will almost certainly be called out? Anyone?

Well, the mean cynical side of me thinks she’s so full of herself that she believes she’ll somehow avoid consequences. Like she’s untouchable. Also, I don’t think she’s understood as she should have the power of YouTube. Yes, it’s helped her in that Rev. Wright looks wacky as his videos are played over and over, but, while she can redact the name of the Bosnian girl so that no one can find and interview her, she can’t keep people from posting stuff on YouTube that make her look bad. She can’t cover all her tracks all the time.

I’d prefer your side yell, “Liar, liar, pantsuits on fire!!”

“I’m not bothered by things like Romney’s “marching with MLK” story - as a lawyer I see people’s malleable memories at work every day, and it’s very rarely a case of intentional lying”

Ditto. But this is a pretty unusual case (someone shooting at your child?) unless she’s conflating several events into one memory, which is very common phenomenon.
