Closing the strange name thread?

Can you explain why? "cause I had a really cute funny one.

There seems to be a move to close threads these days. I often don’t see why, especially when they are in the Cafe.

The thread closing is likely because someone posted on the thread that was 7 years old. It is better to start new discussions rather then resurrecting old ones.

But on the subject of strange names, a boy in our town has the name of Buffalo Hird. Why do parents do this to a kid??

It was very old. There is a more recent one about “strange” names: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/1749230-what-are-the-best-and-worst-baby-names-p1.html

My great uncle’s name was Robert E Lee. Not the civil war general, but a famous guy nonetheless. There is also a guy at my work named Winston Churchill. Not odd names, but pretty memorable.

One reason we close old threads is that frequently there is stuff in them that wasn’t caught by any moderators, and we don’t have time to sift through pages and pages to look for problems. Then somebody reports something from 2007!

^oops. That was me! I did not even notice how old it was. Sorry:(… FWIW, I didn’t see any “report worthy” stuff in it, but understand your reasoning completely!
