so im thinking of applying to the pre college at cmu through diversity, i was wondering if anyone could tell me ur stats for SAMS or AP/EA?
i really want to go cuz its free but i dont think im gonna make it ):
and do they put an emphasis on essays?

I went to AP/EA this summer, and it was pretty cool. My stats aren’t really the best, so I was surprised…

GPA: 3.96
Rank: 3 out of 45 (tiny school)
PSAT 204ish (I hadn’t taken SAT or ACT yet)
Activities:
Academic Decathlon
Film Club
Volunteer at Public Library
NHS and all other honor societies

Yeah, not a lot. I know someone with a much lower rank and GPA that applied to SAMS and was rejected. I did essays over my African background and Academic Decathlon, and they weren’t the best, but pretty good. It seems like they take a holistic view of the application, so the essays should at least be decent. Seriously, just apply. It was a great program, and a ton of people were in it. Plus, Pittsburgh is amazing. I’d also suggest applying to Caltech’s YESS program since it’s another free one.

thanks
my stats are worse than urs >__<;; but mightis well try haha

i went to SAMS this summer and it was absolutely the best summer i’ve ever had =]
the classes were awesome and so were the people
im African American
Female
GPA:3.95/4.0
Rank:5 out of 173
PSAT:then 153
Activites:
Tennis 2 years
Volleyball
Model UN
Quiz Bowl
Concert and Marching Band
NHS
BETA
Math Club

when i went to SAMS there were about 60 of us, there were a few who were number one, some average i guess so dont worry that much about your stats, worry about your essays. yeah Pittsburgh is beautiful! but i was always on campus because i was studying =[, but it was all worth while

I’m a bit confused, what is the difference between the diversity and the regular one? D:

the summer programs for Diversity are separated. The one for Diversity is free and the regular one (pre-college) isnt. the only difference is cost. The summer programs for diversity is more selective because it is free. but SAMS is strictly the diversity one.
