I guess as we are on waitlist, so we will keep checking it but realistically chances of getting accepted is very low. We are waitlisted on 5 colleges including CMU and UMich. Right now, trying to finalize between Purdue, Madison and NorthEastern for CS. We are international. Any inputs on which one to pick or how to go about finalizing a college without having to see them? My kid’s dream were CMU and UMich so he has no particular preference for any 3.
If you look at their most recent Common Data Set, they accepted 43 students from it after offering the waitlist to nearly 9,000 and with about 4,600 accepting spot. So the acceptance rate from the waitlist was under 1%.
Does anyone know as to why CMU cancelled the Waitlist Presentation informative Session scheduled for the dates April 10th & 17th, please? Received an email on Thursday (3/28) that it has been cancelled and now the portal shows inactive…
I’m glad you posted this, I looked for the link last night to sign up and kept getting the inactive portal message, and couldn’t figure out why. Don’t know why they cancelled it.
My son has been interested in some of the same ones and waitlisted at CMU and UMich as well. One of the concerns he has had (not a big one, but still a concern) about UMich is that the buildings where CS classes are taught are in a location that is a bit of a distance from the main campus (a friend who attends UMich now let him know).
The CS buildings at Michigan are new and beautiful. They are located on North Campus. There are many dorms on North Campus, too, and it is the home of engineering and fine arts classes. It is a thriving area. Central Campus is in the heart of Ann Arbor and is the home of most other kinds of classes. The two campuses are accessible by (free) buses.
Tbh, there’s no new info in those sessions that’s not already in their online FAQ. You’re not missing out.
(Source: my D had attended the session a couple of years ago).
Congratulations to her and you! Same for my older son who was WL’ed 3 yrs ago & withdrew his application. He is thriving in his current college. Now, my 2nd kid is in the same situation.
