They definitely waitlisted a good amount of people this year

Hang on-- you should not be waiting on a waitlist. You should be committing to another school. It’s fine to hope on a waitlist offer but don’t put all of your eggs in that basket. Even if they start making more offers May 15, they can keep sending them out all summer until they’ve filled what they need to fill.

And historically very few students are admitted from waitlist-- think of this more like a lottery ticket and make sure you have deposited at a sure thing.

Anyone got off waitlist from schools other than engineering?

In an effort to get the waitlist moving for others, my son declined his admission to CMU engineering over 1 week ago. We are very grateful for the admissions and he really did like CMU but he decided to go elsewhere.

Today he received a package from CMU with a turn Tartan flag. It included a letter dated April 15 that stated the deadline to commit would be May 15. I know it’s snail mail but it seems CMU takes a while to mail things out.

I hope many of you get off the WL.

Thanks for the update! Did they only email you or sid they call you as well or want to schedule a call?

Looks like people who have applied for engineering have a better shot than CS ?

It is the best college for CS so if people were given a spot, they would be more likely to accept it

Not sure about that
so far my son is happy about his current choice (VT) and getting engaged in so much prep and planning. He might not accept CMU at this stage.

even drama?

has anyone heard anything for college of engineering?

we haven’t heard anything yet. really hoping i can get off the waitlist for statistics and machine learning

Nothing yet. They will probably start sending more out after May 15th when they know exactly how many spots they need to fill.

Any info on how many they took for Dietrich college off of waitlist last year ?

I don’t see why they’d need to waitlist a lot, since SCS is super competitive and should have a high yield rate or at least a less varying one.

Anyone heard anything from tepper yet ?

True, we are also waitlisted for SCS. Though we know the waitlist is farfetched dream but till the final rejection comes we will keep checking. I agree they shouldn’t have so many waitlisted for SCS because unnecessary it makes kids hoping against the hopes. Makes it difficult for them to move onto their next choice.

I get how being on waitlists can be hard but nobody makes people stay on them. If kids are finding it difficult to really commit to other choices because of the very very small chance they will get off a waitlist, then we as parents should be encouraging them to decline the waitlist so that’s not getting in their way.

We found out, there is no pull from waitlist on Comp Science unfortunately. Not expected at all.
