My S as been accepted to LaSalle with a Founder’s Scholarship and now he’s received a letter to apply to the Co-Op Scholars program. There’s also a brochure with lots of details and one of those details would be the minimum requirements. His GPA is .10th of a point shy of minimum, his SAT approximately 100 points below minimum and they are asking for top 25% in class and he’s currently in the top 1/3. He’s been employed by the same employer for almost 2 years, won sales contests and has a stellar work record. I say “go for it” even though he’s not quite there with the requirements. Another plus is that he has achieved high honor roll (all As) for the first two marking periods of senior year. Of course this is not reflected in the end of year junior numbers.
So, I guess my question is, are these letters sent to every business major that’s accepted regardless of their GPA and other rankings or is this letter telling us that these minimum requirements are “guidelines” and there’s hope for acceptance?
Hey it doesn’t hurt to apply. The worst that happens is they say no. If you don’t apply, you’ll never know. And they might even give your son a good shot if they think he’s a strong student and a hard worker outside of the GPA/SAT/class rank boundaries.
Interesting. We were looking at the printed information and it specifically stated “minimum requirements”. The wording on the website is definitely more broad. Thank you Didactic for pointing that out.
You’re welcome! But hmm, that’s interesting that the letter and the website are different. I don’t THINK that they expect the people who have the letters to have the creds but if you have any questions, maybe you should drop an email to admissions.
