Jashton will be very happy to know this. This scholarship money means a lot to him for his further study.

Its great that this person has such an amazing passion for music! He/She deserves it!

i thought i had a great chance then i see people’s posts on the million hours of community service they’ve managed to squeeze into four years

i’m so oblivious to all of this!!i really have no one to help me with college stuff and scholarships-- also the fiirst in my huge mexican family[[ever]] to get past the eighth grade, not only that but i’m apparently enough to be a semi-finalist for this amazing program

You never know the judges’ mind. Lasy year, Top 5 Coke Scholars had only 100 - 400 volunteer hours. Can you believe it? I think it is the passion the judges look for (on top of GPA and ACT/SAT)

I know what you mean vpancakes. I have around 80 hours each year. And it happens to be that my school never required for me to participate in volunteer services. And I never saw the importance of keeping track, so I estimated… I go out there because I love to, and that’s what really matters. It’s that time that I spend making a difference in the health-care field. Some hours are better than none. And I hope they realize that there’s no one that tells us to go out there. To tell you the truth my parents don’t even talk to me anymore. I wish that I was blessed with the opportunity of having better guidance in my life, however our hard work is what got us this far in the process. We can only hope for the best!

@vpancakes Obviously you have the drive to go to college and further your education. That’s probably the passion that they were looking for. Don’t be at all surprised if you are a finialist. It seems to me that you have worked hard to get where you are today. :)

@NickSmith That makes me feel a little better. Though there was a guy from my school two years ago who was a finalist that only had a 21 on his ACT and a lower–in comparison to the other finalists–GPA. So I think it could go either way. I agree that they probably are more concered with how passionate you are with what you talk about in your essays.

I have been reading this forum for the past few days to see if anyone else had heard back from the committee! This wait sucks! I seriously come home everyday and check the mail! haha I feel so pathetic!

I too thought that I had a pretty good chance, but I don’t know, and I hate to get my hopes up! Good luck everyone! :)

i never thought about keeping track, i did it because i can’t sit still and if i can’t be a normal lazy bored teenager and i can’t sleep, i need to do something productive. my school doesn’t require it either
i’ve volunteered in research projects at museums, aquariums, and zoos. i’ve helped cleaning fields that used to be covered in wild flowers but were ruined by people’s trash. planted gardens at schools. that’s really it, everthing else was just me helping someone out while i was there. i didn’t do it to have something to put on a resume

Would probably be a better idea for Coca Cola (and us) if they took that money and selected more finalists (:

@ tkahre
I am from Oklahoma. Stillwater, in fact! (Now you could find my name if you really wanted to…and if the database is up).

And I honestly think that the essays are the most important part.
Beyond that, community service, then your activities. They see what your passions are through how you ranked your activities, and through that, they hope to see who we truly are.

Good morning all!

On the bright side, we have a maximum of two more days to wait.

@vanillachai
That is, if they don’t delay it because of the nice snow storm in the midwest!

I’m on the east coast, so since it was already mailed, hopefully things arrive here quickly…

I have a good feeling about today for us East-coasters!

Is anyone else out of school because of the snow storm? Lol. I hate not having too much to do on a snow day.

Time to finish that KFC Scholarship that is due by 5 PM tonight.
Stupid homework was keeping me too busy, lol.

@PoStorm Really? So are you planning on going to OSU? I’m from Moore, soon to move to Norman because my mom just got married, so I chose OU. Plus, my whole family loves OU. For me personally, I don’t care too much for football. Did you guys get hit with snow last night too? They cancelled my school like five hours before the snow even started.

No, I am lying /sarcasm
And I am going to OSU for the engineering program. (And my dad works there)
And we got hit at around 11PM-1AM… I was not paying attention.

Do you know Allison Nguyen?

Haha. Okay, I’m one that appreciates sarcasm. I’m planning to go to OU for their International Business program.

No, I don’t. But that’s probably because I go to school in Oklahoma City(almost Yukon). Does she go to Moore?

i want to know if i got the scholarship already!!! the 11th is too long of a wait!! is everybody else as crazy as I am right now? haha

im so stressing out over this thing. i want the money! but i know all of you guys deserve it just as much as I do. even more than me for most of yall. Its crazy how much leadership and ambition one shows even in posting a thread on this website. I love it!
