Topic: What has inspired you to pursue an engineering degree and why would you like to study at the University of Toronto?
What skills have you developed through your extra-curricular experiences that will support your future success as both a student and an engineer?

As a kid my interests kept on changing from being a teacher to an archeologist, a historian and even a veterinary, thanks to the exposure of television. With the passage of time, mathematics and science cast a spell on me. I always excelled in these subjects. My insatiable obsession with science and its everyday application meant that I was associated with scientific debates and competitions right from my school days. I was an integral part of many science projects in High School winning accolades for them. My cupboard is adorned with many awards, which motivates me to carry on my scientific journey. When I had to zero in on a subject of my career interest, Engineering Sciences with nanotechnology as a major, became my chosen field of study.
Nanotechnology turns out to be the bridge to all my ambitions, allowing me to build machinery on a sub-atomic level and then using them for other applications, including medical. Nanotechnology is a vast field and we are just beginning to learn about it which means I can actually help contribute to our knowledge on such an arcane subject.
Born and brought up in a desert country, I was awed by orderliness and the eco-friendly environment of the cities and the countryside of Canada on my trip to that country. Even at nine years of age, I decided to come back here for higher studies.
Researching on Canadian universities made me aware that the University of Toronto is the best university in Canada and ranked very highly in the world. Its outstanding past and present faculty, the number of Nobel Laureates it has produced, the wide range of subjects it offers, its research facilities, the huge campus have all impressed me beyond words. The University’s stimulative academic environment and an undergraduate program of my choice, along with a fabulous campus to keep alive my other interests have motivated me to apply to this University. It is here that I can get a great education and the opportunities to learn under and alongside the brightest minds, who can help me in realizing my aspirations of being a successful engineer.
I have been a multifaceted person, taking interest and participating in everything from science projects to debates, art, music and swimming. Being the Class Prefect has instilled in me the leadership qualities. I play the violin, not in a professional capacity, but as a hobby. I picked up drawing from my parents, who are architects and this has helped in my engineering drawing to a great deal. I have represented my school in Muscat and in India for swimming and earned many awards. Swimming has made me physically strong, focused, taught me perseverance and a desire to win, alone and as a team.
The love for art and music will help me passively in being creative as an engineer. Participating in various activities and yet maintaining a good academic record will definitely help me in being a good student and in participating in other activities of the university. As an engineer I will be focused, creative, hardworking and will be able to lead any team.
