College Class 2018

This time last year, I was so bored with senior year, lol. I skipped 40 days by the end of the year. Zero motivation, especially since I was already accepted. I was accepted in November, so I lost motivation early in the school year. I managed to maintain a 4.0 for the year, though.

I start back on Monday, and I’m ready. I feel like I haven’t been in school forever. I’m ready to start my new classes.

I go back in 20 days.

I’ve been keeping myself busy by working through some Calc I stuff on Khan Academy. I remember ~90% of the stuff, but I’m still taking pretty detailed notes. I figure the more I do now, the less I’ll have to do once class starts up. I’ve finished limits/continuity and I’m about 1/3 the way through derivation. I don’t really care about finishing everything though, since I’ve already created a decent buffer for the first few weeks of the semester.

I’ve been thinking about getting a job as well and am considering applying to become a campus tour guide. It pays pretty well and has flexible hours–I don’t think I’d mind wandering backwards around campus for ten bucks an hour. Plus, free gear. I went to a winter quarter kickoff event this evening and they were giving out school-themed trashcans.

At the start of second semester last year, I was freaking out over college decisions, but fortunately things worked out albeit a bit unconventionally. It’s kind of hard to believe that next year at this time, we’ll be looking at ourselves becoming juniors in a few short months…

I’m in a weird place in terms of credits. I have 50 credits right now, so I’m almost a Junior I think. I don’t want to graduate early though; I don’t see any tangible benefit - I’m in no rush to enter the workforce or anything plus I think I’d rather take lighter semesters and keep my GPA up. What sucks is that I have to decide if I want to transfer by next semester because if I complete any coursework beyond 60 credits, it won’t be eligible for transfer. :expressionless:

Jean shopping is hella demoralizing. I am not THAT tall - I’m not a forward for the LA Lakers or anything but my lord, every damn pair of jeans I tried on in the two hours I was at the mall today was way too short - like, mid-to-lower-mid calf short. Capris length short.

I’m sticking to leggings and yoga pants.

Whenever I go shopping for jeans the regular length jeans are way too long and the short length jeans are too short. Go figure. I’m always trying to figure out exactly how many inches things are going to shrink, to decide between regular and short.

I’m the same way runner019. Regular length jeans drag on the ground and get ripped up (unless I fold up the bottoms, which isn’t the most attractive choice, and sometimes they fall), but short jeans end about an inch above my ankle! So irritating. I pretty much have to buy Silver brand jeans now, because they have different combinations for inseam and waistband sizes (ie I buy a 31 x 31 instead of a “9”)

@runner019‌ and @baileyj57‌
haha yeah, I cannot wear regular length jeans. But sometimes my legs are still too short for short length jeans. The ones that work best for me are American Eagle short length but they’re expensive (for me, at least) :frowning:

Tuesday is my first day of classes. I’m nervous and excited. I am glad I don’t have an 8 am this semester. Tonight, we are supposed to get freezing rain, and tomorrow’s commute would not be fun. I feel the struggle for my fellow classmates! Haha.

I still have to order books. Ugh.

Classes recommence tomorrow. Fired up and ready, although slightly reluctant to leave the laziness of winter break!

I have to order books as well. I have two more weeks left and I’m stuck between wanting to go back to school immediately but also not wanting to give up my 14 hours of sleep every day.

I feel the same way preamble… Except I only have 7 days.

I have my books for history and calc II. I still have to order my books for physics and science of materials - not excited about that because my materials book costs $284 from the bookstore!!! The access code by itself is $130 so I’m unlikely to find a significantly better deal elsewhere. Ugh!

I use textbookdevils.com, and it finds the cheapest option on the internet. I have save a ton of money because of that site.

My online science class is now activated on the course management system. The professor seems very organized, so I think that class won’t be too gruesome. I’m just nervous because this is my first time taking online classes.

wow, I “only” have 8ish more days (go back on the 20th) of break left! I know, people are going to back to school earlier (and some already have), but for some reason I felt like I had more time. I think I’m excited, but I’m also nervous.

hahaha, I just find PDFs from the depths of the Internet and use those. I barely used my textbooks last semester, so it definitely saved a lot of money. This semester I may actually need to buy a paper copy though, the horrors. :stuck_out_tongue:

Don’t worry–you should be fine. Online classes are pretty straightforward and I’m glad I decided to take Statistics through distance learning last quarter. Now I’m taking another online class, Introduction to Music and it seems like it’ll be pretty fun.

I am actually buying my textbooks right now. I figured that it would be a good idea, haha. For my speech class, the textbook that is required is $60 to rent, and the older edition is $3. I’m going to buy the older edition and hope that my professor allows it. I don’t see a problem with it because it’s not a math textbook where the assigned problems could be different, so I think I may be okay. I will probably ask my professor after class tomorrow to see if it’s okay, though.

I woke up at 3pm today. LOL.

I started my classes today. I woke up early and got all excited like a little kid on Christmas, but I’m still apprehensive because I was horrible with time management last semester and my academics went to hell pretty quickly.

I was super excited for my classes today, too! I like most of my professors so far, and feel I will be able to tolerate the cynical one! My Spanish professor speaks even less English than my last one, but I suppose that’s a very good thing - speak Spanish or bust! She tried to go over the syllabus today in English, and ended up just asking students to read it, lol. I absolutely love her!

^ Language immersion is the way to go, haha.

I went to my first Geology lab today, and it was a lot of fun. All we did was read maps and draw pictures, which was a huge improvement from Chem lab last quarter, where we couldn’t even sit down for 3 hours. In this class, we have weekly field trips to various geological sites and I’m really excited!
