I’m doing the exact same thing with German.
I have a 40 hour/week unpaid internship this summer, so I know the pain =/ Biz dev with a startup in DC.

@Vctory It sucks that your internship is unpaid. I’ve got 99 problems. but not being paid isn’t one of them.
LOL my internship is unpaid as well but it’s only 5 hours a day twice a week.
I interviewed for an unpaid internship at a law firm and I ended up getting it but was notified in an email that it was 40 hours a week… I just deleted the email and never contacted them again.
Ill be working 40 hours a week as well; I also plan on filling out my sub papers so that come September I will be able to sub in my district
I’m also in the 40 hours a week club. Its boring and completely unrelated to my major/future career, but it pays well so I’m not complaining!
@Jazzii - For some reason I thought you meant “sub” as in like a meatball sub and your post made absolutely no sense. LOL.
I can’t believe companies successfully recruit people to work 40 hours a week for free. No way I’d ever do that. I probably wouldn’t do even 10 hours of unpaid work.
I just got an official offer for my internship - so excited! I’ll be working 8-5 on T/Th/F and taking classes 9-4 on MW so I will be super busy… But the internship pays well and sounds fun, and it’s past the drop deadline so I’m stuck with the classes. But since they are transfer courses they won’t count in my GPA so I just have to pass with a C, so that takes away a great deal of stress.
I’m working and taking classes. With just work, it doesn’t feel busy, though I’m working full time. When my classes start, I’ll work part-time again. They start in a week. I’m going to be so busy.
Eh, I don’t really consider my internship “work” - I finished today’s assignment in 30 minutes and spent the rest of the 4.5 hours watching Orange Is The New Black. LOL. Plus the organization I’m interning with is public policy oriented, so I don’t even consider it a job so much as I consider it public service/“making the world a better place.”
@quidditchcat where do you work? I work in a daycare 40-50 hours a week and am always busy (coming from someone who did 17 credits and worked upwards of 30 hours weekly at 2 jobs)
I think I have a bigger role now because I do a lot of lesson planning and the hours aren’t quite as set as my previous daycare (old one was m-f 6:30-630. This one is M-Sat; 5:30-12am) so my hours are significantly more spread out
I keep trying to rework my schedule for the fall, but I think I am going to have to accept the fact that my schedule isn’t always going to work out the way I want it. Tuesdays and Thursdays I have a class from 12:30 - 1:45, and I have a night class on Thursdays from 6:00 - 8:30, which gives me like a four-hour lull between the two classes. I always tell myself that I will use that time to study and whatever, but I know I won’t study.
@Jazii I work on campus for an administrative department, doing website stuff.
Wow, 17 credits with 30 hours/week? That sounds tough… During the school year I think even 10-20 is a lot.
@NewBeginnings3 Haha same. I hate gaps in my schedule for that reason…
Sadly I don’t have much choice in my schedule - most of the classes I need are offered once, maybe twice, each semester and for the most part they have to be taken in order. At least I’ll be working as a tutor next fall, so I’ll just fill my horrible breaks with tutoring sessions. That way I’m at least productive and getting paid!
On Fridays this fall I will have a class 10:00-10:50 and 3:00-3:50… I have a feeling that the 4 hour break will just turn to into an early start for my weekend since the 3pm class is a large lecture where attendance doesn’t matter, lol.
@baileyj57 - I would hate having a gap like that on a Friday. Sometimes there isn’t any way around it, I guess.
I’m worried about the night class because I’m afraid I’ll go home after my 12:30 class and won’t want to go back to school. This will be especially true when October and November roll around, which means the class will begin after sundown.
That gap on a Friday definitely sucks - I had one this spring as well (The physics department is apparently incapable of offering an intro course in a timeslot other than 3:00-3:50 on MWF…). But at least this time I can skip if I want - it’s a large lecture with no attendance grade, and I tend to learn better from the textbook in science classes anyways.
I couldn’t imagine an evening class, though. I thought it was bad enough leaving a class after sunset… Let alone going to the class! My surveying lab will be from 2:30-5:30… Not sure how they expect us to survey when it’s dark out at the end of the semester…
I guess the bright side is that it is only once a week.
I was supposed to have a night class this past spring, but I went to the first class and then dropped it as soon as I got home because I didn’t like going to class when it was dark and cold outside, LOL.
Just made my schedule, unfortunately I have a lot of Friday classes because of how this school does them (they have MR classes and TF whereas my other school was MW TR) but I’ll have class on Monday from 5-7:50 and Tuesday and Friday from: 9-1045, 11:00-12:15, 12:30-1:45 and 3:30-4:45. With observations Wednesday from ,8-12
So is Class of 2019 supposed to talk here or do we get our own thread?
Feel free to join in here Cosmo
Haha yeah @Cosmological, welcome to the thread!
I haven’t been super productive these few weeks, but I’ve been diligently researching internship options for the following year because having some structure to my free time doesn’t seem like such a bad idea after all.
As for fall semester, I don’t think I’ll have any significant gaps in my schedule, but I * will* have to walk a mile to get to class every day. Uphill. Both ways. In the snow.
