College Class 2018

I’m thinking of taking:

Writing for CS
Algorithms
Software Engineering
Operating Systems

It’s 15 credits with no friday classes and nothing before 11. I love being a CS major =)

Next semester should be interesting:

Masters Level Programming Languages (at a school ranked 15th in the nation for PL in CS)
Masters Level Computer Systems
Arts and Humanities Requirement Class TBD
Comparative Cultures Requirement Class TBD

Going to be nice to have 2 non-STEM classes after an all STEM semester (Masters Algorithms, Theory of Computation, Calculus Based Probability and Statistics, Embedded Design Enabling Robotics (EECE)) but hell with 2 really tough masters CS classes.

I had to take a midterm for my online science class. I get nervous for online tests because they are usually timed. For some reason, an hour and forty-five minutes when taking a timed exam goes so fast compared to an hour and forty-five minutes doing something else. I used the whole time period to take the exam, and I was not expecting to do so!

I’ve altered my schedule at least 6 different times in the past 4 days so I’ll update all of y’all when my schedule is set in stone and I physically cannot make any more changes to it, haha.

Just to emphasize my point; the post immediately above this was posted on 10/19. It is currently 10/22 and I have since changed my schedule two more times. I need help.

The only choice I have regarding my spring schedule is a choice between two profs for a course. My classes are totally set in stone at this point in my major, so I’m taking:
Language Impairments, Audiometry, Speech Sound Disorders, and Speech Science

I don’t register for classes until Mid November, but I need to visit advising to get these schedule blocks removed…hmmmm…

I’m just waiting to be able to view the schedule for spring. Registration is mid November

I’m being advised tomorrow and I’m registering for courses next week.

Damn! Exact same for me! Though I’ve pretty much obsessed and figured out on my what courses I’ll be taking every semester for the nest 2.5 years…

I have my 17 credit classes chosen and they’re pushed early in the day so I end school at 11:50am Mon-Fri. Problem is that I’m not able to enroll until November 9 at 6:00am which lets the honors students, GI bill guys/gals, et al enroll in classes first and fill them up.

This is the first semester where I will have a gap between my classes. I have a class at 10 on M/W/F and then not again until 1. I really hate having a break after just one class. A break after two or three classes would be okay, but after one class is annoying. My T/R schedule is okay; I have a class at 9:30 and 11, so at least those are back-to-back.

I have a class 8-8:50, 10:00-10:50, and 12-12:50 on MWF next semester… The breaks really are super annoying! I do have a tutoring job on campus though so I’m planning to use the breaks for that since I only need 1 hr time slots.

Help me make a decision my dear CC friends:

I am deciding between two courses that meet at the same time for next semester. One is a major course and one is a minor course. They’re both “electives” that satisfy the requirement that a certain number of upper division courses must be taken to finish the major and minor. (They’re both 300 level.)

Major course: Taught by an excellent professor who everyone raves about. Every POLSCI major I’ve talked to says that they wish they could take every single class with her. She’s pretty much a super star on Rate My Professor. She’s also known to be very lenient when it comes to workload and grading, meaning that I’ll likely do well with the right amount of effort. Lectures are very clear, very organized, and so on. Basically anything you could possible attribute to a good professor, she’s probably got that going for her. However, the topic of the class is pretty mundane. (Public Policy)

Minor course: Taught by a professor I’ve taken 3 classes with before. (A’s in all of them.) He is very, very knowledgable and his lectures are always engaging. He is one of the few professors in the minor Department and he knows me very well. I anticipate that I’ll be asking him for recommendation letters for graduate school in the future. However, he’s not an “easy” professor - I always work my ass off studying for his exams that happen to be incredibly detail oriented. I don’t mind this, because the material is always so interesting, but relative to the major course, it’s probably gonna be a bit more work.

Thoughts? Any insight would be greatly appreciated, haha. I’ve literally been switching out each class over and over these past couple of days.

I just banged out a 15 page essay in one night. It’s garbage, but it’s done. That’s all that matters. LOL

I got back a writing assignment for one of my classes and received a 15/20. I have done very well so far in the class, and this is my first screw up, sorta. My professor left a lot of comments on my paper, and I felt like such an idiot after reading her comments, haha. She also noted that one of my sources was not suitable for academic writing, which I found odd because I didn’t see anything wrong with it. I don’t know; sometimes I think professors are a tad picky. Oh well, at least this was the last writing assignment I have to do for the class.

I’d lean towards the major course so long as you can regularly touch base with the other prof @preamble1776

@preamble1776 I don’t know how you humanities people write so many freaking papers. I’m having so much trouble busting out a 5-6 page piece for Greek Civ.

All my papers are going to be under 1800 words this semester. My longest so far was 1500 where I wrote a “Dear Colleague” letter as a Senator about my policy proposal. The average paper is ~1000 words. It’s beautiful.

I can’t decide if I want to drop a course or not.

I’m not doing too well in it, I’d probably end up with a D if I keep getting same grades, but a C is within reason if I step it up a bit. But stepping it up would require me to sacrifice a different class… I have a pretty high GPA requirement for my scholarships as well…

If I drop I’ll be left with 14 credits for the semester, but I’m already well ahead of the game and can easily graduate on time even if I push this off. It’s not a prereq for anything but it is required for my major.

My current TA is pretty awful, but none of the others seem much better so putting it off probably won’t make a difference in that aspect.

So, yeah… Can’t decide if I want a W, much less stress and better grades in my remaining classes… Or risk a C/D hurting my GPA, increasing my stress, but saving the $650 it’d cost to retake and just getting the class over with.
