College Dance Audition Schedule and Results 2019-2020

It it really fun to read about everyone’s auditions and acceptances. I really had a great time with my daughter traveling during the application process . She applied and auditioned (live) for University of Arizona , Chapman, NYU, Fordham, UC Irvine and Southern Methodist. She was accepted at all of these programs. She submitted an application to USC with video and did not receive an audition.

She was invited to audition at Loyola Marymount , Michigan, Marymount Manhattan and Rutgers but opted not to go as she had already been accepted to a number of schools with which she was happy.

Ultimately, she chose University of Arizona which was her first choice and is thrilled to be there!

Enjoy this excited time with your dancer! I’ll be heading to U of Arizona in February to see her in her first performance on the UArizona stage! Can’t think of a better reason to leave Chicago in February!

Does anyone know anything about the BA Dance program at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix? My daughter is visiting there this week and will audition on Saturday. Thank you!

@docdancemom My DS is auditioning at several of the schools that your DD did. What did she think of UC Irvine, my DS top choice? Fordham and Chapman are on his list as well as USC. Did she just not get a call back from USC?

@gmfalv Any word from Fordham regarding prescreen? Good luck to all who have dancers auditioning today at Pace!

not yet- i was told we’ll be finding out in december about ailey auditions.

D’s audition at Pace is this saturday.

wondering if anyone applied to YoungArts for Dance? I heard notifications have begun and will continue through next week. My D applied for Modern/Contemporary and we’re anxiously awaiting the results!

Good luck to anyone who applied!

She received an email from USC just saying that they were not able to offer her a audition . She loved Chapman and Fordham . I don’t think she was as impressed w UC Irvine quite frankly. I loved the campus and they gave a very nice presentation to the parents at the audition.

I read an article this morning about the stress of the college application process. Everything it said seems magnified by 10 for anyone going through the process in hopes of a performing arts major.

I loved the ending quote. “Everything will be OK in the end. If it’s not OK, it’s not the end.”

I wrote my Daughter’s first (and hopefully the last) audition post in the NYU Tisch Dance forum, and thought I should post it here too.

@dkmm1973 how did your PACE & NYU back to back auditions go for your daughter last year? My daughter is doing the same thing this year. Was George Mason her first choice?

It wasn’t a big deal and it saved another plane ticket!
Her top school was NYU and she was waitlisted there. Purchase and Mason were her top 2 in the end and she liked Mason’s program better (Purchase is a very small school so that didn’t appeal to her). That being said, she is happy that she didn’t get into NYU. They have changed the program a ton (she did the summer high school month as a rising Junior). She knows freshman there that are not happy with it.

@dkmm1973 thanks for the information. Did the freshman say what they don’t like about it? Also, even though she didn’t like Pace, did she get in? Did she do the intensive or just on campus audition?

@gmfalv how did your D audition go at PACE? Did she like it? Does she feel like it went well?

@mom2020dance She did not get into Pace and she did a campus audition. I don’t want to be negative about NYU but I can tell you some concerns. They are not focusing on technique as much as exploratory dance which isn’t what they used to do. We have heard that you don’t get much help finding jobs after graduation. They took a far larger class so you don’t get as much attention. A guy that was auditioning last year chose Purchase over NYU. He didn’t like that you spent your summers there. It makes it very hard to do summer intensives where they can learn from different people and expand their training. Lastly, the cost is outrageous and they don’t give very much money in talent scholarships. But, it is NYU and there are many great things about it!

@dkmm1973 thanks for the feedback. It is helpful as we go through this process. Very nerve crushing at least for me lol. She seems to only get nervous during the audition and once it’s over she just moves on with life. LOL

I absolutely hated the process last year. It’s so much more difficult than a regular college admission process. It’s such a long and grueling process. My D handled it way better than I did.

@dkmm1973 thats exactly how its going for us! Im on pins and needles she gets over the audition immediately. She did say she will only audition to 1 more school SUNY Purchase if these others don’t work out.

by the Grace of GOD she has been accepted into some great programs so far. Point Park, Montclair, UofA, Peabody (JH), so many can’t really count, but she is on that NY dream : )

@mom2020dance my D LOVED the pace audition. She only had about 30 in her audition class - so it was smaller than usual. It went from about 10-1 and they had ballet, jazz, about 15 mins of tap and a short hip hop class.

After the classes were done they asked 5 to stay for interviews- my D was one of them.

She really liked the program and thought the other 4 dancers that made it through to the interviews were strong dancers. We’re hoping for good news since the audition she felt went really well!

@gmfalv congratulations she got an interview that is VERY positive!!! Is PACE her first choice? 5 out of 30, 16%… okay… I will truly pray she gets in!! if that is what she wants. Where is she or did she audition for?
