@gmfalv how did it go? My DD is up in the air about keeping this on her list. We’ve heard mixed reviews. She’s been accepted academically, but hasn’t auditioned yet. She has a good friend who was there yesterday who is an elite ballerina and trained very well in modern and jazz also. She did not make the cut and we were shocked to hear that. She said there were about 90 dancers and only 20 made the cut, and that there were many very talented dancers cut. So now I’m wondering what exactly they are looking for. Not high on our list, so trying to make a decision about whether to do the audition. Here’s hoping your DD had a great experience!
@Momontoes hi yes! there were about 90-95 auditioners there and they kept about 30 I believe for solos/interviews. Half were for BA and half were for BFA. My D was asked to stay and perform her solo/interview for BFA. She thought it went well. She also had a few friends there who are very good dancers who were cut. It seems they are very selective. My D overall liked the audition- we should be getting the results soon!
It seems Marymount was similar to Pace in the sense that they seemed to want dancers that were well trained in ballet, modern and jazz- a few of my Ds friends who were cut are mainly just trained in ballet with not much modern or jazz training.
@gmfalv congrats! Your daughter is having a wonderful audition season. Nice that she will have some great choices - although that can be stressful too!! Thanks for the feedback.
@Momontoes thank you… still waiting for results though so we feel the pain! Good luck to your D!
@Momontoes my dd was accepted academically but decided not to audition. She did not like the fact that there was no campus at all, AND even with a scholarship it was going to be a reach $$-wise, and the audition sounded very competitive (and honestly we’d heard somewhat capricious/inconsistent in who they didn’t take and didn’t take). Once my dd was accepted into some other programs that she liked, we decided to take that one off the list.
@threegirlpileup yes, we’ve heard the same many times which is why I was seeking feedback from yesterday. As I said earlier, my DD has a good friend who auditioned yesterday and we were shocked to find out she didn’t make the cut. She has gotten into many good schools and made cuts at other elite programs. Anyway, we have to decide what we will do. My DD has been accepted into programs high on her list already, and not sure if we need a rejection at this point in the game. Definitely not an easy process.
@momontoes we are in a hotel in Garden City, NY right now because my dd has her VERY LAST audition at Adelphi tomorrow. We have been in NYC since Thursday having an amazing weekend at BroadwayCon (we are big musical theatre nerds) and while it seemed like a good idea to combine the two trips (we live far away), at the moment we are both TIRED and kind of burned out on auditions/college applications (especially since like your dd she’s already into places probably higher on her list). Plus my dd was sick last week so she hasn’t taken class in something like 10 days, so she’s going into the audition both tired and out of shape. I think we both wish we were on a plane headed back home, but we’re trying to make the best of it.
It’s a freaking marathon, that’s for sure.
@threegirlpileup oh my I’m a bit jealous you’re almost done :). We do still have 2 more auditions even if we take Marymount off the list. I am looking forward to being done. Good luck to your DD and congrats on it almost being over! Glad you enjoyed NYC - we are lucky to live close and take advantage of everything it has to offer. Can’t beat the theatre!!
@Momontoes mostly we were at the Con but we did get to see Jagged Little Pill on Thursday. It was SO GOOD.
It really is strange from program to program who they keep and who they cut. She has friends that were accepted at Point Park and made the prescreen at USC but got cut at Purchase. They all seem to be looking for something different. We were In NYC this weekend for NYU and Marymount auditions. She made the cut at both. I think 9 were called at NYU and 35 at Marymount. She’s been accepted at Chapman. The programs/schools could not be more different! Will be interesting to see where she lands. Decided to cut some other auditions since she has one acceptance at one of her top choices so I am happy to say we are done with audition season. Just waiting now!
What day did she audition at NYU?
what day did she audition at NYU?
D just received acceptance to Marymount for BFA in Jazz! She’s happy to have a NYC school as a yes
@dkmm1973 my d auditioned on Friday at NYU. She said it went well (I didn’t go with her). Wondering how long it will be before we find out?
Regular decision is the end of March. My daughter went through this process last year. So stressful!
Oh wow! @dkmm1973 thank you for letting us know! Thinking May 1st we will have a decision!!! HA HA HA!!!
@emilyhuntnelson lol!! i literally think NYU is one of the last schools to release their decisions. Lucky for us!!
But glad to hear your D’s audition went well!
I’ve just been reflecting on how the timing and schedule really do end up influencing the process. My dd has been pretty interested in Ohio State. She was accepted there via Dancewave, and coming to campus was not part of their process for scholarship consideration. So we opted NOT to go there in the fall, deciding that we would go ahead and wait to make sure she got in academically (she did) and to see if she got OOS merit aid (still waiting, though she should be a strong candidate). In the meantime we’ve visited and auditioned at (it seems like) a zillion places and she’s kind of burned out. She has two very strong choices, one of which has given her enough aid that it’s doable (still waiting to hear from the other), and most of the others she has now declined. Ohio State (which on paper seems like it would be a great fit for her) is still kind of dangling out there, but honestly when it comes down to it, I’m not sure she’s going to have the energy to assess one more school. But I can totally imagine a scenario in which she visited them earlier in the process and was totally excited about it as an option!
This whole process is CRAZY! Trying to be thankful that at least we are not waiting until March for any admissions decisions…
I agree the timing is really a challenge. I also think the programs and the different requirements are really stressful. Some admit dance, then academic, some you have to be admitted academically before an audition, some the opposite. Its a full-time job to keep up. I keep telling myself and my daughter that many have done this before and it will all be worth it… on decision day! HA! May 1st… 3 months from tomorrow! Hang in there mamas! We got this!
@threegirlpileup I have been reflecting along the same lines. One of D’s top choices is first school to admit her academically and included academic merit in acceptance and first program she auditioned at in person that gave her program acceptance. Coincidence? Divine intervention?
Lol, I am struggling a bit with certain schools coming off her list, but at same time I am tired and a bit worn down by the process. It seems that certain places just fell to the side for all kinds of reasons. I choose to believe that is to make room for the right choice. It seems to me that we put SO much time and energy into making sure she had options that it seems strange and a little uncomfortable to see the list get smaller now. I am having lots of second guessing and what if scenarios play in my head. Luckily my D feels very confident that the ones she has let go of were not as right for her.
