College Essays

I’m working this summer at the National Cancer Institute (at NIH). But in order to do so, I have to commute 2 hours ONE-WAY everyday (40 minute drive to the Metro station and then two trains to NIH + walking from station to NIH).

How could I incorporate this into a college esssay? I want to emphasize that NIH is something I am committed to…not matter how long it takes to get there. I am thinking of building it as a metaphor for life, that I will overcome all obstacles in the way to my dreams and goals. Can you please offer input?

By the way, I plan on applying to a couple med programs or go premed in college, hence NIH (my interest in biomed).

start with a visual presentation of what it took you to get there every morning

something along the lines of “it was dark outside and i could hear the nightngale…” something like that lol

bump…

^ no offense, but the sentence bananagirl offered wouldn’t make me want to read on

IMHO, it’s probably too early to start thinking about college essays. I left mine off (as is the tradition) until a few weekends before and they were fantastic and helped get me into a great school.

The whole “metaphor for life” thing could be cool, but it could also be sappy…and who knows how many essays admissions couns. have read about a “metaphor for life” If the essay is really going to be such a deciding factor, you should go buy some college essay books which helped me and offer great tips.
