Hi, I’m looking for the best major in W&M, rank wise in undergrad, thx

why?

major in what you want to do…

Exactly. There is no “best” major at W&M. The best major is the one that you enjoy the most and that will lead you to the highest degree of success and fulfilment. I should also add that departmental prestige at the undergraduate level is fairly irrelevant - it is solidly trumped by school prestige and student quality.

Well…Im facing a pretty big problem…

My family is from Taiwan, and we’ve moved to NY about 5 years ago, and my parents really don’t know anything about W&M…(since there is no access to the information about the school because their friends are all in NY and are all Asians)

Instead of W&M, they want me to goto Saint John’s Pharmacy program ($20000 Scholarship) which is a six-year-PHD-program.

And it is something like a “backdoor” because they still intend me to goto business but in case i dont suceed, i’ll still have a degree and a secure job.

Therefore, im looking for programs in W&M that is suitable as an specific “backdoor” sort of a job that is about 4-6 years.
(EX: Law, Psychology, Pre-med, Etc…)

Furthermore, my parents stress the rankings of the schools, therefore, it’s quite hard to show them that W&M is a great school to go to…

Dude…it really isn’t your parents decision.

They don’t get to pick your college major…much less your career.

You will do what you want to do.

Yea, I know that this may go against the way you were raised, but you should really be a bit more independent in your selection of a college, major and career. More important than your major, in many cases, is the college you go to, and a college like W&M will provide you with many, many benefits. You can have a degree in a non-business area and still do quite well in business. You can go to W&M and major in a science and go on to pharmacy school or medical school. You don’t need to be thinking of any particular career at this point, as long as you do well in whatever you choose to study. Your parents don’t know much about W&M, but you do, employers do and graduate schools certainly do. That is all that matters.
