I believe Fordham IS a target school for this field but I will defer to @Catcherinthetoast who can answer this more definitively.
I wonât indulge in this nonsense. I am not suggesting I am the only one who hires people on Wall Street.
I am however the current CEO of a large multinational investment bank having worked on Wall Street for 30+ years including several senior roles at the large bulge bracket American banks.
All of the 25 or so largest banks tend to compare notes to ensure we stay competitive with one another. This is done through direct HR contacts and several consulting firms. I am consequently kept up to speed on hiring practices not just at my firm but the industry as a whole.
Given that background I am sharing my first hand experience. If others would like to disagree I would suggest they state their basis beyond a LinkedIn search.
Most do not have because they have top 30.
But Iâll give you one that goes 60 deep and there they are along with others people would say no one can get there. I banking is not a one or five firm nor a one city proposition. I also have a mid tier firm list from P&Q.
Speaking in absolutes is wrong imho. Itâs not easy Iâm sure but it is done is the point.
For anyone wanting information about IB, I would urge you to read this AMA. The person running it has been fully vetted by College Confidential as an expert in this area. There is a TON of excellent advice in this thread from someone who is completely in the know about the field.
Iâll assume both @Catcherinthetoast and @tsbna44 are done arguing with each other and flagging each otherâs posts. Several of their posts deleted.
My kids work in a well known tech company, and on occasion I may share, in a limited way, what they have shared with me about their work (though much is ânot at liberty to discussâ). But the specifics are outside my wheelhouse so I would defer to those with firsthand experience/knowledge. One s. is on the board of a national science advocacy organization, so I may get information from him. But I admit my area of expertise is elsewhere. Having the opportunity to get firsthand knowledge from C level folks is the beauty of CC. Listen carefully and wisely to the experts in the field. If, for example, I decided to buy a lottery ticket or enter a sweepstakes, I would not consider myself an expert in banking, finance houses or investment planning.
OP what did you decide?
DD committed to Virginia Tech on Sunday. She had a bit of a mourning period for both South Carolina (she was accepted into the Capstone program and offered even more merit) and Georgia (everyone oohed and ahhed that she was accepted out of state). I believe that VT is the right fit and the right choice for her. She attended the Hokie Focus event for admitted students last Saturday and that finally sealed the deal. She really liked what she heard about the business program. Highlights were the Peer Mentor program where Freshman are paired with upperclassmen peers to help guide them with classes, attaining internships, etc. Apparently, the kids that participated in the Peer Mentor program had a 100% employment rate upon graduation. She also liked the two intro to business classes to be taken in the first year - the first focuses on helping the kids set up Linked n profiles, resumes, etc. and the second explains the 7 business majors offered at VT and helps the kids understand potential job paths. She knows quite a few kids attending VT and they are very similar in personality to hers - nice, social, but not partiers and focused on their studies and doing well. She also really loves the campus and feels it is like Hogwarts. The downsides are that the weather is colder than she wanted and she will not get to experience another part of the country.
Despite being selected for Capstone at South Carolina, she just could not get over not fully loving Columbia, the U of SC campus and just not feeling like she met enough of âher people.â
At Georgia, she just did not love the campus and vibe enough to overcome having to apply to into the business school. I think if admission was direct admit or just a GPA requirement she may have been swayed towards Georgia. My husband and I are mourning this one a bit since we both love college football and were looking forward to a Georgia - Texas rivalry in the family.
Good luck to all of the kiddos and hope that a few end up at VT. Go Hokies!
Congratulations! Our D committed a little over a month ago (finance major). We went to Hokie Focus on Sat, mainly because she wanted to go shopping (she had been holding off until she made a decision before buying some âmerchâ⊠;-)). Sheâs been decked out in Chicago Maroon & Burnt Orange the last 3 daysâŠ
Coral Rojas in Pamplin, IMO, does a FANTASTIC job. Sheâs a gem, and I agree with the assessment on their programs. This opinion may not be shared by others, but DH & I feel like this is still a trade school. The object is to learn skills to get a job, and the level of support available, in our opinion, was worth OOS tuition for us. Our daughter received a text yesterday from a current Pamplin student, congratulating her, and asking if she had any questions (she wrote back and asked about computer suggestionsâŠ). I wonder if theyâre doing that as sort of an intro to the mentor program. Regardless, I felt it was a nice touch to have someone reach out.
Congratulations! She is going to have a great college experience!
Pamplin is great.
Youâre always going to mourn somewhere (if you have multiple choices) - but itâs fantastic she found her place - clearly the others didnât live up!!
Va Tech is a visual paradise - how great to walk out and see that campus each and every day!!
Yes now that we are down to the wire, I am struggling that my sonâs top two arenât direct admit (Wisconsin and UGA) and every other school he got into, IS! But he has narrowed it down and Guess itâs not the end all be all. Seems like most do MBA when all is said and done anyways so a BBA isnât a guarantee of anything (not that any degree is). Congrats on VT! That does sound awesome I have to say!! lol
Congrats to your son to finding the right fit. We are also getting down to the wire and it looks like my son is going to pick the non direct admit option as well. Of course I worry about the next couple years being more stressful then they have to be but respect his choice and know that heâs going to be fine even if he doesnât make it into the business program. I guess as a parent, itâs hard not to worry about the possible upcoming disappointments but Iâm proud of him for choosing the school he thought was a better fit even with the inherent risk. Good luck to everyoneâŠ.hoping we can get our decision in before May 15. This is getting exhausting.
agree!! so stressful. UGA is still 5/1!!
