Socaldad, being right between the two schools distance-wise, I would say that both schools would be a great choice! She will not go wrong at either!

I think the drama of decision making will now have to wait til march. Then a final trip during spring break. The excitement will now slow to a simmer. While we wait, I will root for all your kids.
Thanks for letting me share our excitement. This thread has been amazing. Thanks for all your support.

I told my dd last night that she can not get her hair cut and colored until the apps are done (they are almost finished, and the school play starts soon)! She is such a good kid, that that is the only thing I have to hold over her. Either the apps will get done, or she will have really long hair and mine will go gray! Pass the wine!

Congrats Socal! Wonderful news! Have been trying to get my son to apply/visit Pitt, however, he insists that he doesn’t want to be in a city. Seems like a fabulous option!

Socaldad: Congrats to your D on her latest acceptance! She sounds like a terrific girl, and obviously the adcoms have recognized that. It’s been a lot of fun to follow her progress.

Rodney: UGH! I hope your get your power back today.

Phillyartmom: I have to confess that when D2 couldn’t seem to finish her apps last year, I let her stay home from school and spend a day in “application boot camp.” She spent the entire day on her applications and finished them up. I stayed home to help with questions and edits. It was worth it for her to work on them when she was fresh and could focus. Good luck!

Thanks for the congratulations for D1. It’s very exciting to see her preparing for the next phase of life.

I just thought I’d share a little confusion that happened with my S’s UT Austin file since it might help someone, especially if they are applying to a large school. My S’s transcript and SAT score went out in August but the application didn’t go out until the 3rd week of Oct. I called UT admissions right after my son received acknowledgement that the ap was received but the transcript and SAT were still needed. The person I spoke with at UT admissions told me it could take 3 weeks to match the materials to his file, so here we are 2 weeks later and I called again to see if having the date the items were sent in would be helpful. When the rep heard that the materials were sent out early August he thought it was very unusual that it was still not in the file. In other words that 3 week window I was given was erroneous. He checked a little further and it seems that the school had given my S two different ID numbers at different times. BTW I questioned this in the first conversation and I was told that students often have multiple numbers but that he should stick with the one that was sent after the application was received. His materials had been sent to a different file but the rep could match them using his name and birthdate.
So the bottom line here is that sometimes if you call a school you can get someone who doesn’t give you the right answers and it pays to followup your follow up :).

Spectrum, way to stay on top of it. As long as he is still applying to UT, I WILL HOLD OUT hope that he chooses to become a longhorn, rather than an aggie. I am not loving A&M after they pulled the traitor move and left for the SEC.

Hahaha Socaldad, you can hold out hope but if he goes to UT it seems it will be because one of 2 things has occurred. He decided that he doesn’t like Calculus and/or physics so he wants to go to business school, at the moment his second choice major. For reasons I don’t understand he has decided that if he does business he wants to go to UT and for engineering he wants to go to TAMU. He says he’ll do UT if he wants to do business even if he doesn’t get into McCombs right off. The other possibility would be that he didn’t get into McCombs and did get into UT engineering, his second UT choice. In that case he might go back and really explore. From what I understand it is highly unlikely that that would occur. Sorry S2 bears no SEC grudge. :).

Hi - crazy busy at work - but just want to say congrats to socaldad and anyone else who got good news this week - did a very rapid skim of posts.

spectrum - good catch - that type of thing does happen - so important to stay on top of it. I have also seen kids end up with multiple files because they use their full name on the application but a different version on the test scores and so forth.

I probably won’t be able to check in very often these days, but I wanted to say congratulations to the offspring of Itlizz, Mom2009, seiclan, socaldad and anyone I missed on the acceptances.
Socaldad, I have to say that your posts about your daughter often move me to tears - she sounds like such a great person and if she comes to Pitt I would really like to meet her - seriously!
I think that anyone who is intrigued by Guilford could also check out Earlham.
Spectrum, I really think that you should push your son to do the essay for the honors program. There are often benefits to an honors program that would really pay off for him down the road.
Arizona State: our high school counselors have told me in the past that they accept B minus students from our school. I have to say that several of them did not last there, though - they couldn’t stay focused on the work with all of that fun going on!

Congrats on the Pitt acceptance! We were accepted at Rutgers last week but still holding out for all to make final decisions. We quickly paid deposit because of the housing lottery RU has. We will be the family who might make multiple deposits because we too are waiting for Delaware. I would rather lose a little money then be playing catch up later.

Just kidding - I know what a family project it becomes. Congratulations on the acceptance and good luck with Delaware. Seems like Delaware will be key for a few posters on this thread!
