Colleges for the Jewish "B" student (Part 1)

Good luck to everyone waiting for ED results. I second C43’s advice about staying calm in front of your kids.

Good Luck to your son on the SAT Linymom! I’m excited for all of you waiting for ED information. I know it will be an exhuberant time learning that the college search is completed if the answer is yes. If the answer is no then know that there is another wonderful choice out there. I’ve not been there with ED but I have been there!

Good luck to everyone regarding ED/EA decisions. D has applied ED to a real reach school. All along she has been saying she would be ok if she doesn’t get in (already has some good acceptances and probably more on the way). Tonight I mentioned something and the date and she said “oh great just 2 days after I get rejected from x.” I guess she is thinking about it more then she is letting on.

Yes, good luck to everyone! I HAVE been there. It’s an exciting time.

I think that I am more apprehensive about the upcoming ED decision than my son…Mr. Cool. My firstborn applied ED to the very same school 6 years ago and was rejected (not even deferred). She ended up happily at our state flagship school but christmas vacation was very tough (emotionally) for all of us. Once burned, twice shy. I am nervous for DS. He is much better suited to the school than she was but still…

I am a follower who has rarely posted due to health issues that don’t seem to stop. No more kvetching - I hope that my health improves so that I can contribute to this wonderful group.

Mazel tov to all of the students and parents who have received acceptances - keep kvelling!!!

Here is my situation: CSS Profile deadline is tomorrow night because my high school senior has a school that requires this form for Early Acceptance. My husband is stuck on how to add a 3rd business. These are nothing businesses provided to him by the company he works for, but we must be honest on this form). He has searched College Board, and I am searching on the web as well as this site for help. Has anyone come across this issue?

I would appreciate any assistance that you can provide. Thank you!

thanks everyone for the wishes. i am patiently and impatiently waiting for tomorrow eve. my S is very cool. he is expecting me to stay awake to check the site. he doesn’t want me to post on fb so that he can fake out his friends. i told him too bad, after 18 mons. of getting to this point i am allowed to hopefully kvell.

u bet that i will post here and fb as soon as i know. i can post while he calls grandparents and friends. my dh is in florida on business. he will just have to wait for his call too!!

S is more concerned that he has to hand in his parking pass for the next 15 days. he forgot to put it on his windshield.

i am crossing all my fingers and toes for everyone here.

shoppermar - first - hello and welcome. On the CSS Profile - I have done it a number of times - but never as a self-employed person. I suggest you try posting your question on the Financial Aid forum. Or send a PM to kelsmom or swimcatsmom - 2 posters who have worked in financial aid.

Hi all. Good luck to everyone. Dd pulled the plug on all but one of her applications, including the all encompassing portfolio. Her first choice is a rolling admit, so hopefully she should hear in two to three weeks. I am more nervous than she was, and I am no judge of what her “best work” is! But, the time will pass and her second and third choices are great fits too, if the first choice does not work. Thanks everyone for being here!

shoppermar: Welcome! Regarding your CSS Profile question, I would call CSS ASAP. Explain what you are trying to do and have them tell you the right way to represent it. I called both FAFSA and CSS several times when I was filling out the forms for DD. I didn’t think either were very clear (and I have a college degree!!).

Can’t wait to see how everyone here does with ED this week! I will be on a biz trip on Thurs/Fri but will certainly be checking in!

Shopper mar- call, but print out the 24 page info. We own our own business have seven other partnerships. It was a real treat and joy to do that. DH was beyond thrilled but thank goodness he once was a CPA. Everything should be on your last years tax documents. That form asks for everything but a stool sample. Probably won’t get a thing but had to ask.

Just rcvd an email that S2 will hear from his ED school on Tues, Dec 6 at 3 PM. Already have an appt to have my roots done to tomorrow, vodka and wine both chilling, Reeses and ice cream are ready. What did I miss? I was feeling better about this a few weeks ago, now, not so much. He will be SO disappointed if it comes to naught. Everything happens for a reason, but I dont think he will see it that way. Oy Vey.

Samtalya…fingers, toes and everything else wishing your son gets the thumbs up!! Hope you are hanging in, as well!!

Orangemom: Dec. 6th is my birthday and I am sending my birthday wish to your S for an acceptance on Tuesday!!!

Just wondering about your methodology - do you drink the wine during the day and switch to vodka at night? Chocolate and alcohol: perfect for a celebration or a consolation!

Orangemom: I felt the same way you did last year with D2. She had fallen in love with a school and would have been terribly disappointed if she hadn’t gotten in ED. Things worked out well for her, and I hope they do for your S also. If they don’t, I’m sure that he’ll move on and find another school that’s a great fit. I’ve seen lots of kids deal with ED disappointment, and things generally work out in the end.

Samtalya: Fingers are crossed for good news tomorrow!

911…as it is your birthday, than I shall toast you with a nice Cabernet and a salted chocolate. Delicious for either celebrating another yr or mourning the passing of our youth.

I’m thinking the vodka may be breakfast. As my sister’s MIL says, “water is for bathing. Vodka is for drinking.”. Yeah, she’s a handful.

Momjr…I hope either result , he is happy come move in day, wherever that may be. That said, I hope like hell he gets in!

You guys are making me so nervous and I don’t even have a dog in the fight!!! Can I hunker down with some alcohol and chocolate in sympathy or is that taking it too far? Good luck to everyone!

ELON PARENTS - My son just told me a friend of his just got accepted to Elon ED! Are they out early??? I don’t have a dog in this fight either and I’m all worked up!!

Everyone is invited to the party! C’mon…it’s 5 somewhere! Crank the tunes and have your beverage of choice!

Elon is in! Just heard that from a friend in NJ.

To put this in perspective, my son’s gf and best friend since 2 nd grade, passed away suddenly last year. She should have been waiting to hear from NYU. SO…let’s be thankful for healthy kids, although they drive us nuts and L’chaim!

orangemom - thanks! The cab and the choc sound terrific! I think it’s so nerve wracking to have an actual time that you’ll get a decision! As it is, I’m nervous every time I go to the mailbox.

Speaking of snail mail, U of Tulsa mailed out decisions on 11/22. We still haven’t received anything, but impatience got the better of me and I called yesterday afternoon. S was accepted! So far he has three acceptances, but none are to top choice schools.

S GOT IN TO ELON EARLY DECISION!!! Admissions rep just called. Also he is receiving a scholarship new this year, the engagement scholarship.

We are doing the happy dance. tears of joy.

luv you guys for all your support.
