Colleges for the Jewish "B" student (Part 1)

Socal: Congrats on the CU Boulder admit! As a U of D alum who also spent several days with S at Boulder for an Odyssey of the Mind competition, I was really impressed with Boulder. I love the town and I thought the architecture of the school was beautiful. Maybe it’s the “grass is always greener” but I would have pushed CU over UD to S if he had shown any interest in either. But again, my opinion of CU was based on a very limited period of time.

congrats again to socal and simkin.

boyssx3-chanuka tees! i did indeed spend quite a bit at the elon store yesterday all in the name of chanuka!!

Wow…such great news on this thread. Congratulations to all of these early acceptances.

Good luck to those of you still waiting. I know how anxious/crazy I was a year ago (and will be again in a couple of years). Looking forward to reading about more acceptances (and commisserating over the inevitable disappointments as well).

SOCALDAD,
Congrats on Boulder even if it is not on her radar. Keeping my fingers crossed for the high on the listers.

Socal and Itlliz - Congrats on Boulder! My S has applied, but hasn’t heard yet. Hope that doesn’t mean bad news! S hasn’t seen the school yet, but thinks it’s high on his list! We’re in NJ and it’s a bit too far for my liking. I may end up being overruled! Think positive thoughts…

I hope that this list isn’t premature, but in recognition of the milestone attained with RVM S2’s admit to Elon, I scanned back through the pages since mid-Sept to compile the following list of acceptances. It is entirely possible that I’ve missed some of our good news and of course, this is a dynamic list.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLASS OF 2012!

^^^^^bump!!!^^^^^

I love your list. I can’t help but notice how many have Pitt on this list.
Itzliz and my d have many similar acceptances. And they live one town over.
Nice job on this. Others should copy and paste and continually add to this. It is nice to follow. Perhaps an enrolled section should be added at bottom. The elon kids can start this trend. Keeping the list may be helpful for all… Especially current juniors looking to develop a list…

Thanks, Socal. It’s exactly what I had in mind. I really credit you with being so open about your anxiety for your D. I certainly share feelings like that about my S and your D’s early acceptances to so many great schools was a terrific inspiration.

Just so everyone see’s the BIG list http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/1212824-class-2016-list-acceptances-h-s-2012-a-10.html

Thanks, Kathiep. It’s so impressive to see so many acceptances! I’ll leave it to others to add names and additional schools. I limited my search for acceptances to this thread, mainly b/c this is the thread that I most frequently check.

I figured that was what you were doing 911, a similar list was kept for our kids last year. Just thought I would mention the big list in case people hadn’t noticed it. Sometimes we just don’t see the stickies at the top.

I had noticed the bigger list (and I think there are probably other lists based on stats). I felt that perhaps a more “intimate” list for the parents who typically post on this thread was helpful, especially since we’ve focused on “B” kids (Jewish and non-Jewish). This thread has been so successful in encouraging its posters.

911 - thank you for starting the list - great idea - and perhaps we can BOLD the school they will be attending. I think maintaining a list on this thread will be a great resource for future parents of Jewish “B” students who wants some ideas without reading through 752 pages!!

Thanks 911, I had been loosing track. We’re not ready for a firm decision yet but I added TAMU which I expect will be S’s choice. I didn’t realize I’d mentioned the UT admit, we’re still waiting to see what major he will be accepted to at UT although admission to the university is in. It probably won’t be Feb or March until we know. All along TAMU has been S’s first choice but once the admission is finalized that could change. S did file the scholarship ap for UT indicating to me that he hasn’t dropped it as a possibility.

Hey, thanks! I don’t actually have a Jewish B student; more like a half-Jewish, self-proclaimed atheist C+ student, haha. But for full disclosure – he also has acceptances from U of Kansas and McDaniel College. Waiting for about 9 more; I think I overdid it with applications but most of them were free.

I mean “he” overdid it, LOL. Well, he did write his own essays.

As some of you know - I am an interloper but I feel a part of your “family”!! So far, S2 has been accepted to University of Georgia and Tulane. Still have quite a few applications out there (some are EAs) but the big ED decision will determine the course of action.
