Congratulations to all on the new acceptances, esp our OP’s son!!! I was pulling for him!

911, thanks. this is just awesome to see and will continue to grow!

Can anyone tell me something about Denison?

My son was invited up by the coach and I have NEVER even heard of the school!

Could be moot, come Tuesday, but one never knows…

Orangemom, yes. See if you can PM Erin’sDad on cc. I believe that he has a daughter there unless she graduated recently.

We visited and my son was accepted. He ended up not attending though. I think it is just a beautiful campus. For my son this was a reach school, and even though he did get some merit aid, it was not enough for us to make it work. BTW, they are supposed to be quite generous with aid, but for us the aid was not great because my son’s stats were on the lower end for this school.

Denison had been on my radar for a while, but I couldn’t get S interested in Ohio schools.
I saw on another thread about Druggiest Schools, and Denison is on that.

[Druggiest Colleges in U.S.: Colorado, Denison, Dartmouth, Kenyon, More - The Daily Beast](<a href=“Druggiest Colleges in U.S.: Colorado, Denison, Dartmouth, Kenyon, More”>Druggiest Colleges in U.S.: Colorado, Denison, Dartmouth, Kenyon, More)

I looked at Denison when I was considering adding Ohio Wesleyan and Wooster as a school where S might get merit $. With the acceptances he’s gotten so far, we’re not considering it anymore. I think it has a pretty rep for academics, though.

From the USN&WR rankings: (Denison is 49 on the list)

Denison University is a private institution that was founded in 1831. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 2,275, its setting is suburban, and the campus size is 850 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. Denison University’s ranking in the 2012 edition of Best Colleges is National Liberal Arts Colleges, 49. Its tuition and fees are $40,210 (2011-12).

Denison University, a small liberal arts college, is set in the proportionally small town of Granville, Ohio. From campus, students can walk to the restaurants and shops that line Granville’s main street. Bikers may enjoy the 36-mile trail that connects Granville to the nearby Ohio cities of Newark, Johnstown, and Alexandria. The state capital, Columbus, is about 25 miles away, and students can get there in the free Big Red Express shuttles, which run three days a week. All students must live on campus, unless they are married, have children, are over the age of 25, or commute from a nearby parent’s home. Freshmen will only live with other first-year students. Close to 30 percent of students are involved in Denison’s Greek system, which comprises about 15 fraternities and sororities. There are about 150 other student clubs and organizations on campus. Student athletes compete as the Denison Big Red in the NCAA Division III North Coast Athletic Conference, but the school does not have an official mascot, despite frequent attempts by students to find one. More than three quarters of students play sports at some level. Besides playing or cheering for sports teams, students can catch performances by famous musicians like Yo-Yo Ma in the Vail Series or get a quick cooking lesson from a faculty member during the on-campus Chowder Hours.

911C2S, I saw that article, but I found it strange that there quite a few OH schools that made the list. I know that some posters commented about the criteria for the list (not sure about all of the criteria was besides another College site that also puts out individual small books about colleges. The initials of that company are C. P.).

Hi from class of 2015 land…congrats to all again!! How great is it that we can actually have a list!

Anyway, Denison was a school recommended to my daughter when she was meeting with her school’s guidance counselor…very strong LAC but like others, Ohio was not on our radar by that point…have heard wonderful things about it though…

Thanks, everyone. I thought DS was done with LAC’s, but obviously the sports part of the equation is still strong. A former teammate is there. I know he’s a great kid, but no rocket scientist, yet got serious $$.

I’m over it until Tuesday afternoon.

NEMom: I agree that lists like this can always be suspect, (same thing can be said for any ranking) but since it had just been published, I figured it was worth putting out there for orangemom.

I don’t pay any attention to those lists

except, perhaps Dartmouth, but that’s due to a wknd I still don’t recall 25 years later…but I digress

You can get anything, anywhere if you are looking.

^^hmmm…sounds like a story we would all love to hear…jk…

Winter Carnival, 1985

Picked up by friend in a MG convertible (10 degrees). Went to a bar to wait for other friends. Great place to doctor up Bloody Marys. Met a nice professor…Blank till following night…party at Hitler Youth Fraternity. Left. Spotted the Shoe Tree (a tree with sneakers hanging from it) got to dorm. Blank…

There was bowling somewhere.

And THAT was my wknd!

Oh wow…have you told your kids about this? The “blank till following night” I might leave out haha…and Hitler Youth Fraternity? Lol…

I recall about 5 hours of a 4 day wknd. Classic. I’m beyond proud.

I have mentioned it to my kids, with some editing. They think I’m beyond hope now, so they just chalk it up.

Was it on this weekend that vodka for breakfast started? (LOL)

911…you are killing me!! I’m saving that morning till Tuesday! Check my posts then.

Good Lord, I sound ready for a 12 step program…Hey, look! It’s almost 5:00!

You can put my son down for U of Alabama (not bold yet).

Denison’s been characterized here (by RVM, in fact!) as a school that’s a good option for B students who don’t mind not having much Jewish life. My web search for Jewish life there turned up a mention on unig0 from a few years back who said he was one of very few Jews. That said, the school offers a large range of majors for a school its size. There’s a promising looking academic support and enrichment center.

Anyone want to help turn orangemom’s lost weekend into a screenplay?  :)
