Thanks, Rodney. It is good thing that the PO isn’t open now. Gives me time to cool to a “strolling” pace!

College4three…I know we had a great time! Just wish the fog would clear!!!

Socaldad…Mazel Tov to you and your family on this wonderful day!

Of we are listing older kids:

D1- UF ( accepted: UConn, Syracuse, UMD, UAZ, Rutgers, Boston Co, Cornell, Colgate, Hobart) athlete
S1- UF (accepted: FSU, Ga Tech)

D1 decided against playing sports in school. S1 chose UF engineering and friends were there. It was easy. Sold it to his sister. S2 wants no part of it. ;-)

S2 finally rcvd his acceptance letter to Towson today - more than a week after everyone else got theirs. And despite the fact that I have sent the in-state residency form in twice - it still says we need to submit it! I am glad he is accepted at Elon and I don’t have to even consider dealing with Towson. Their inefficiency has been mind-blowing. (He has withdrawn his other applications and Towson’s as well).

RKV - Towson…where do I begin?!? Last weekend I finally logged into the status checker and saw that they had listed as missing a piece of information that doesn’t exist. They would like a transcript for a non-credit college class D took. Same common app filed with other schools. Not a single other school had a problem understanding that this was an enrichment class = no transcript. So I emailed them. Never heard back. Just checked still listed as missing. Emailed them again. We will see. Doesn’t really matter, but for my application $'s we should at least get an acceptance letter! Funniest thing will be if she gets rejected because it’s “missing”. There will be a lot of head scratching when someone looks at naviance and sees the x for her stats! So wish I hadn’t wasted those $'s on the application fee. Lesson learned D2 will not submit an app there.

Just a few years ago Towson was a pleasure to deal with, but that was prior to the common app. My son was accepted in less than 2 weeks from the time that he submitted his application (I think it took about 10 days and this school was his first acceptance). Also, I called with a few questions and it seemed that students answer these calls, but one time a professor from a department called our home to answer questions. I was very impressed.

shoppermar - you had a CSS Profile question about 3 businesses a few days ago - I hope you have long since gotten your answer - but I started doing the CSS Profile for S2 today - and saw the solution. So - for anyone else - before you actually get into the “meat” of the CSS Profile form - you have to do a registration form. This registration form is important in that the answers you provide will “set-up” the actual CSS Profile questions for you. For example - there was a question about how many businesses you own - so for shoppermar - the solution was to go back into the registration form and correctly answer that there were 3 businesses and then you would find yourself with the proper number of slots to answer this question in the actual CSS Profile.

It’s a good thing I work in finance and actually like doing this stuff - I have several tax returns, 2 CSS Profiles, 2 FAFSAs, a separate form for Elon and 1 IDOC to do this year!

Just wanted to add my good wishes to Socaldad, his son and the rest of his family!

BOLD us for Rutgers! We are done. We are actually going to call Delaware and remove application. We are going with the most frugal decision that meets all wishes. I don’t know if its the best decision, but it is one that we are all comfortable with. We are RU Now some of the Channukah gifts will be easy. Phew…

Congratulations on the decision cherryhillmomto2!!! Did your son do ED there (otherwise why remove the UDel app?)

Will your son do Engineering at RU at East Brunswick?

cherryhillmomto2, CONGRATULATIONS!! My son has a quite a few friends that go to RU and they say that they are happy there.

As a Jewish “A-B” senior (3.8 uw, 4.9 w), I can say that Clark seems like a great target/safety school, may give merit aid depending on scores, etc, and also has great Jewish life on campus. Another suggestion is University of Maryland at College Park- big school, great honors college, incredible Jewish life. They even have a Jewish Learning Initiative couple on campus.

Cherryhillmom: Congratualtions on your S’s choice of Rutgers! It’s great when the best value meets all wishes.

I’m sorry to hear about the aggravation RVM and Mdmom have had with Towson admissions. It sounds like they are having some growing pains with the switch to the common application. I do still think that Towson is a good option for Jewish B students. My D2 has several friends there, and they they are all very happy.

cheryhillmom - congratulations on the Rutgers decision - doesn’t it feel good to be DONE!

momjr - I do still think that Towson is a good option for a Jewish “B” student - S2 has a good friend who is a freshman and is having a positive experience. Hopefully their admission process will be smoother next year after they finish this transition year.

I am starting the college search for D2. D1 is a freshman a Tulane and is SO happy, it was absolutely the perfect choice for her! D2 has no idea of wht she wants to study, she is a B+ student. She wants a large school, with lots of spirit, a campus (no city schools) and is not looking at any places with extremely cold climates (upstate NY, Wisconsin, Vermont, etc). I was wondering what you think of UF or FSU or U Texas as possbilities? My concern is that we live in New England and those schools have a high percentage of in state students, would she feel like an outsider? Especially in Texas - would it be culture shock?

Right now she has Indiana, Penn State and U Maryland on her list, please let me know if you have any advice. And if you have any specific questions about Tulane feel free to PM me.
Thanks and goood luck to all of you!

Mazel Tov on the Bar Mitzvah Socaldad!!! I hope it was a wonderful day for your family.
Mazel Tov also to Cherryhill on the Rutgers decison.

Mumof2: Welcome, I’m sure Socaldad will talk to you about UT Austin (I expect this is the UT you ae referring to) when he gets back to the thread. It’s a big weekend for him so I’ll answer a bit. UT Austin has a very different feel from most of Texas, and a very strong Jewish community, It has a diverse community and is welcoming to differences. Austin is a wonderful city, hubby and I are here this weekend pretending to be college kids :). But beware, it definitely has an urban feel. The majority of the students are from Texas but I will let Socaldad talk to being an out of state student there.

Guitar2D2: Welcome also thanks for your thoughts on Clark and U of Md.

welcome mum2. Is UF for B+ students? It is has gotten increasingly competitive and harder for out of state students to get in. 4.0’s in Florida get a free ride. Also make sure to check out size of classes. I have heard that freshmen intro classes are sometimes taken on laptops in dorms. Not sure if this filters to the other Florida schools like FSU, USF and UCF.

University of Georgia might be worth looking in to. Great college town, but again, out of state B+ might be tough.

Test scores will make a big difference.

socaldad: Mazel Tov on the Bar Mitzvah! I hope you are busy enjoying the celebration this weekend!

cherryhillmom: Mazel Tov on the RU decision!

mumof2: Another suggestion for you: University of Delaware. My DD is a happy soph there now. Lots of Jewish opportunities there, good school spirit (although prob doesn’t compare to PSU) and a very beautiful campus. Definitely better weather than the NE.

DS took the SAT yesterday. I was away on biz but DH said he seemed pretty nervous about it. But, he did chat with me about it when I got home and thinks it went pretty well. Now the wait for the score on 12/22. He’s taking the ACT next weekend - will see if this test works better for him or not.

Interestingly, I was contacted by the local alumni assoc. for my college to help with admissions interviews next month. I think I did this for them a long time ago, and I am excited to get involved again now. I have a better perspective now that I have gone through it with my own kids.

It’s an exciting time here on this thread. It’s hard to be away for a couple of days and then catch up on the posts!

Ummm, I know limited info on that because I’m agnostic (former sort of Catholic), but I’d throw out University of Hartford as a safety and maybe Brandeis as a reach (if someone hasn’t said it). They’re more North, but it’s better here, anyway. At UHart, their top majors are in the arts and business. The Hartt School’s their really only well known school, though, I think. But based on their acceptance page, I noticed a lot of people talking about the Hillel, and whatnot. I don’t know as much about Brandeis. But good luck!

mazel tov to socaldad on the occasion of his son’s bar mitzvah. and mazel tov to cherryhillmom on the satisfying conclusion to her son’s college search.
you guys are on a roll here. I’m looking forward to sharing the rest of the journey with you.

mum…UF for in state require a 4.0 and even then, admissions is weird. For OOS, a student needs to be an athlete of have a real hook, in addition to good grades.

I have 2 there and cannot blv how nuts it is.

I second Delaware.
