On diversity at Denison, specifically Jewish life, my BF works there (with minority and international students) and says she doesn’t know % but there are “a good number” and she believes the current study body president, if that helps at all. The town Denison is in (where I live), does not have a large Jewish population, but nearby Columbus OH does.

I’d think a call to admissions would get you some info on the demographic makeup of students.

I don’t know about Wooster…just noticed the new athletic facilities, and my S has added it to his app list just recently, we haven’t visited yet.

chocchip: DD is in Italy for UD’s winter session – the study abroad opportunities during the winter session really attracted her when she was looking at colleges. She will be Venice, Sienna, Sorrento, Rome, Florence - taking two classes (6 credits) and will be back on Feb. 1. Unfortunately, I won’t get to go visit :(

luvmom, welcome. Since she doesn’t like the cold, would she/you consider going a little further south to NC? if so, look at elon. they have a great ed program and accounting. the whole biz school has been winning many national comps. i can’t say enough good stuff about elon. biased of course since S just got in ed. wonderfully active hillel. 5500 kids, beautiful campus. we are from nj as well are many kids. pm me for any questions.

emptynester, great acceptances from all the schools. it seems that c of c is much smaller than the others. try to have her sit in on a class and even spend the night in a dorm. make sure she meets kids on campus and go beyond the campus tour for a real feel to the school. good luck and keep us posted.

My D was accepted at some of the same schools. IU, Kansas, and CofC. We have not visited Cof C. Would you be so kind to share your observations with us or me when you return. Thanks so much. Have fun on visits…

I love you ladies! Your kind input is so…relieving…thank you. My D is not at the IC swim level & I doubt she’d even qualify for a Club swim team, but swimming is her love & stress-reliever, so a college with a good pool is necessary. We are open to any options at this point-I have checked out Elon (thx, samtalya!), High Point & even Furman. As a Jewish Jersey girl, I’m a tad biased towards the South, though. For those of you whose kids have gone/are going South, feel free to change my mind! I did rule out F&M and Gettysburg, as, from my research, they don’t seem strong in education/accounting. Going North, I have considered Quinnipiac & Clark. Famof3, I’ll look into York & nice to know OH Wes has new pool. Linymom-Italy? Wonderful! I’m ever so jealous…never been.

Has your daughter considered American Univ in DC? Business school is excellent, and internship opportunities are fantastic…rated #1 nationally. It’s not an LAC but it has about 5000-6000 undergrads on a small but nice campus.

S3 is a junior there and loves it…he was down to deciding between Dickinson and University of Richmond (Dickinson is good for Jewish students, Richmond not so much) but then fell head-over-heels for American.

If she is open to going further afield, would she look at University of Denver? Fabulous business school, it’s about 25% Jewish, lovely pool and other athletic facilities, and it’s sunny 315 days/year.

LuvMom-Have you looked at College of Charleston? D1 sat in on a business class and loved it. Don’t know about the pool situation, but what college doesn’t have a decent pool these days? Definitely worth a look.

boysx3, I love American & U Rich, but don’t think D would get in-SAT too low. I know nothing about U Denver/Dickinson, Denver seems so far away, but sounds appealing. Vitrac, just looked into CofC yesterday d/t this thread, but would my D be comfy, religiously speaking, in Charleston?

The gorgeous city and nearby beaches are an attraction. High F-M ratio though at this school may be a negative to a daughter (and a positive for a son).

d is a Jewish jersey girl freshman at Elon…has been very discussed in this thread but here is your link…she is more than comfortable there; feel free to ask anything you would like to know…there are quite a few Jewish students at Elon and the non-Jewish population is predominantly northeast and mid-Atlantic…heck, the president is a Geneseo and Syracuse grad…

I don’t want to “gush” but our expectations have been more than met…

Luvmom: there is a road show coming to Parsippany on Monday night, January 9th from Elon…if you can, it’s a great introduction (got my daughter very excited junior year and inspired her April visit which sold her)

Also a vote here for College of Charleston but it is a little larger and definitely a “city” vibe…

re: education major- i think your d should consider the state where she would like to teach bec i think that certification programs differ by state

quakerstake - Luv the CofC plethora of info. I’ve read about Charleston Jews, but have never visited. My D’s not a true city girl (nothing beats NYC, our neighbor), but it’s certainly worth our while.

pamom59 - thx. I’ve been wondering how the state certs work & suggested to D to ask her HS teaching/edu adviser. Looking into American-great 4 politics, I’m sure!

Luv–Hillel was very warm and welcoming when we visited. We went to a Shabbat dinner there (skipping the service) and it was a very nice environment. Definitely worth visiting IMHO. Charleston is a great, vibrant, manageable city.
