Congrats to Champs S! Gotta love those EA and rolling admission schools.

Congratulations champs!

Loving the good news from Tulane!

Thank you all for the congrats messages. And congratulations to people who just heard from Tulane. I do not know where my D2 will end up yet. But I can tell you that D! could not be happier than she is at Tulane! And she has decided to enroll in a 5 year masters program there so I know I have at least one extra year to keep visiting and trying new restaurants in New Orleans. Good luck to everyone on acceptances to all your schools. In a few months this part will be over and then we can focus on shopping for their dorm rooms.

Shabbat Shalom !!!

Just want to put in a good word for Chabad and Hillel at Tulane - we stopped by both yesterday during our campus visit.

Congratulations Champs!

Hi all- I haven’t check in here in a while- enjoy seeing all the great news about acceptances!

If anyone has questions about Pitt or Drexel, free free to PM me as I may not be checking the thread frequently. If I recall correctly, champs son was considering Pitt and there may be others.

Good luck to everyone on the applications still pending!

Hi all. Anyone have feedback about American U? Not only Jewish life but also just social life on campus. DC is a great city but how does that impact the social scene on campus?

AU seems to have a great balance between campus life and DC life.

My son is active in intramural sports and a fraternity, as well as a couple of clubs on campus. Also, when he was a freshman, he did one of the living/learning communities and made a lot of the friends he still has there. The Hillel has a lot going on, and the director is great (he is a close friend of my older son’s) but my son who is a senior is not involved there on a regular basis.

The kids on campus tend to use DC as an extension of campus. For example, playing flashlight tag or having a scavenger hunt on the National Mall at midnight, going to free concerts at the Kennedy Center, all the Smithsonians are free, and they go all over the District for good eats.

A lot of kids get involved with all kinds of Jewish activities on and off campus…AIPAC, JCRC, FIDF, etc. This way they also meet Jewish kids from the other DC schools and also meet a lot of Jewish professionals (connections/networking).

Kids have to be careful not to get sucked in to too much…there is almost always so much to do that kids have to remember they are there to STUDY.

My daughter is a freshman at AU. As far as I can tell, there are always a million things going on there, on campus. There are concerts, guest speakers, theatrical performances, club activities, etc. The Hillel and the JSA between them seem to sponsor something to do at least twice or three times a week.

I can’t see how the proximity of a city with lots to do would detract from campus life–when my daughter is going into DC, she is going with friends from AU. It’s not like it’s a suitcase school where everyone packs up and goes their separate ways for the weekend…to explore DC. They do these things together. She and her friends have gone to cool events at Embassies, the Library of Congress, etc.

And when she wants to stay in, there is always someone to hang out with in the dorm lounge. Every floor has a nicely-appointed lounge with full kitchen, TV, dining table that can accommodate a group eating together, etc. Her floor likes to watch movies, play board games, etc.

Thanks to everyone for your congrats!! S is feeling pretty good! Sorry it took me so long, busy weekend.

Yes, pamom, Pitt is still high on S’s list, and as decision-time nears I may be picking your brain - thanks for your offer.

Agree with Linymom, Chabad and Hillel at Tulane are both excellent. I’ve felt so welcome by them and am so grateful to have such amazing resources on campus. They are co-hosting a Chanukah “party,” where we can light the Chanukiah and eat (free) latkes. Yum!

champs, here’s to having good choices! Mazal Tov!

Fantastic news about Tulane. What a great way to kick off Chanukah.

Is anyone here waiting for ED decisions?

Yes, if you are nervously, anxiously waiting - let us wait with you. Having been through it twice, I certainly can relate.

anxiously awaiting EA acceptances here…1 would be nice.

Waiting for those acceptances is the hardest part…

LuvMom, the wait is very hard. I hope you get some EA acceptances soon. Hang in there.

anxiously awaiting EA acceptances this month from Northeastern & Tulane (which we’ve pretty much given up on) and next month, Maryland. D has decided, after a weekend visit with a friend at Penn State (where she has been accepted) is not for her. Keeping fingers crossed that she gets some positive news.
