Wolfffman, if you are going to Boston, perhaps you should look at Brandeis. It is on the smaller end, but aside from that, it might be a match. Pitt is great and has a fabulous Jewish student center. Good luck!

I’ve been reading but not posting lately…life has been very busy as I became a grandmother last month!

As far as Jewish life at AU–there is plenty of it. My youngest son (a senior!) chose not to get involved at Hillel even though he is good friends with Jason from BBYO–but he and his friends do a lot of “Jewish” things–for example, he and his buds just had a Seder for 22 people at a house where a lot of his fraternity brothers live.

My middle son (who graduates from his master’s program this May) has been very Jewishly involved–but more off campus/in DC than on campus. A lot of young professional Jewish activities, and he and his friends often go to different congregations for Shabbat (Washington Minyan, 6th and I, Adas Israel, Washington Hebrew–they are all very welcoming with young adult programming)

AU offers whatever a student wants Jewishly–the Hillel is fabulous for those who want a more organized Jewish experience. For students who want Jewish life or a Jewish community or just to feel comfortable/not alone, AU is great for that too.

A grandchild! Mazel tov!

How much in loans are you talking about?

I know so many kids who sound like your daughter who are so happy at UGA. They really like it. There is a nice Jewish community there. And a new Jewish studies program.

Six hours is very hard in the deep south. So many schools have so few Jewish students.

University of Maryland also comes to mind.

Boysx3:

Mazel Tov on becoming a grandmother!! What a wonderful milestone…(I hope I don’t become one for a while! :D)

momofgrits - In Connecticut - check out Quinnipiac and University of Hartford - good for matches/safeties - probably merit money at UHartford…

congrats on becoming a grandmother Boysx3!

Fabulous 236… here is a link that will explain the Kosher meal plan at University of Maryland

Try pushing him to get more As

Hi all…haven’t been around here much…boysx3: now you are making me feel VERY old lol…

Stillnadine: I will PM you on Stevens since that post was last week, but I don’t think your friend is going to find many Jewish students there and, add to that, while a great engineering school, it does not have much campus life; known around these parts as a commuter school…I’m not even sure that there is a large % of students who live on campus…academically, terrific though…unless something has changed, not on the radar of most around here who are looking for a complete campus experience…

My son has decided on Goucher!

Congratulations Shulamit! Wonderful news.

Thank you RVM! This was quite a process…whew!

Congratulations Shulamit. I’m with you on the grueling process! After an exhaustive and thorough search, my daughter has decided to attend the University of Maryland. We LOVED our visit to Elon last week but she just kept going back to the old adage “you can make a large school smaller, but you can’t make a small school bigger.” (One of her criteria when we started our search was large, with lots of school spirit.) Anyway, I appreciate all the feedback and suggestions from everyone over the last 18 months!

Congratulations Jaynebe! I also attended a very large school and had a small school experience due to majoring in English and French…those classes were often quite tiny (‘Great British Satirists’ not a draw for many students!). My son wanted a truly small school and feels he has found a good fit in Goucher.
I must say, I had no idea I would feel so much emotional attachment to several of the schools which he had to turn down. He’s fine…I’m a wreck.
It’s like dating several people at the same time and having to choose just one…like the Bachelor (which I have never watched). Now he is on to the next step which I recall is still pretty busy, deposits, paperwork, shopping, etc. Good luck to my fellow class of '13/'17 moms and dads!

Cngratulations jaynebe and shulemit! Isn’t it nice to have the decision part done? I have one in a small school and one in a huge school. Both made the right choice for themselves. There are wonderful aspects to each.

Also congrats to all of those decisions made for the class of 13. I’ve been on and off the thread lately. I’m looking forward to seeing a list of where everyone is going. I hope all of your kids thrive with the decisions they have made, and that all of you enjoy the next phase of getting them ready to go. And to the parents with twins and tripets sending multiples off at once…what a challenge, I’m sending wishes for boundless energy your way.

jaynebe - congratulations on the UMD decision! I’m sure it will be a wonderful experience.

Rodney, thanks for the Stevens info. She is also considering Rose-Hulman and another engineering school in Illinois. I will pass on your thoughts to her mom.

Such horrible events in Boston yesterday. Is everyone here in our “family” okay?

Stillnadine - DS looked at RHIT and attended a summer program there. However, when I spoke to the admissions office I was told there were 5 or 6 Jewish students, not percent, but 5 or 6 kids. Great school, but very isolated.

DS still has not committed, it still looks like Northeastern, but we r waiting for one more piece of information next week. Watched the coverage of the Boston and it is all so sad and senseless.

My older S in Boston is fine. He attended Marathon LAST year, not this year. He had many frat brothers & friends in the race yesterday, all accounted for. One literally left the blast area one minute before blast, yikes. My S is horrified and many members of his campus were there to give assistance.

We were supposed to go to Boston tomorrow to tour BU with S2 but cancelled it for another time. Luckily we are within driving distance to go just for the day. Anxious to hear from Momjr re: her D at BU. Just was in Boston 2 weeks ago and stopped by NEU (it was on a Sunday so offices closed). Looks nice!

Mazel Tov to Janeybe and Shulamit…and to whomever I’m missing, congrats!
