UC Santa Barbara is one of the better known beach campuses. University of British Columbia is also on a beach. Some other campuses like University of Alaska Southeast, University of Hawaii Manoa and Hilo, CSU Monterey Bay, UC San Diego, Western Washington University, Santa Monica College, Cabrillo College, and College of Alameda are short walks from beaches.
May not be the prettiest beach, but it is right on the water…Texas A&M Galveston TAMUG
Fantastic maritime and engineering programs!
Also Texas A&M Corpus Christi TAMUCC
But students from outside the region should know that the Fairfield “beach lifestyle” is September-November and then late April-June. There are active Polar Bear swim clubs in the area… but only the hardiest athlete takes advantage of the water!
New England beaches are cold! But Boston’s North Shore is gorgeous…
100%! ONly adding bc she said warm or cold lol! I spend alot of time walking Fairfield in the winter…it’s a beautiful, very long walking beach. My daughter loved our tour of Endicott but it was very windy and cold!
I know a very strong student who is having a great experience at Carthage.
Another idea: Northern Michigan University. I went to medical school with a student who had graduated from NMU, and she was well prepared.
Michigan Tech is also pretty near a beach. I know a current student there who is “always hanging out at the beach” if his parent is to be believed. Then again I hear he is “studying hard.” So maybe he is studying at the beach? Michigan Tech is very well respected in the upper Midwest. I know a couple of really smart, very successful and kind engineers from there. The alumni network is strong.
All of these Upper Midwest/Great Lakes schools are very affordably priced. The kid I know at Michigan Tech is attending for ~$20K/yr OOS
University of New England’s campus is literally on the beach in Biddeford, Maine as is College of the Atlantic at the other end of the state in Bar Harbor. The US Naval Academy, the Merchant Marine Academy, the Coast Guard Academy, Cal Maritime, SUNY Maritime, Mass Maritime, Maine Maritime, and Webb Institute of Naval Architecture are all on the water. Connecticut College is across the street from the Coast Guard Academy and has water access of its own. St. Mary’s College of Maryland is on the water.
However, University of the Pacific is a considerable distance from the Pacific ocean, which may disappoint some students looking for ocean access on the other coast.
Salve Regina and University of San Diego both have beautiful ocean views from the cliffs they sit on, but just a big tease really if you want beach access from campus. Gorgeous settings nonetheless.
