Colleges with less than 1,000 students?

Kalamazoo College is bigger than 1,000 (around 1,200-1,300) but a majority of Juniors spend the year abroad, so the campus population is usually less than 1,000…

How many majors could such small colleges offer? And, if they do offer a variety, are profs teaching in more than one major? If not, would they only have a small number of profs per major?

I think Thomas Aquinas in Santa Paula, CA is very small (about 350 students), but I think everyone majors in the same liberal arts major. And, it may also be a Great Books curriculum.

St. Johns

psych, for the sake of your essays, may I point out that it’s “fewer,” not “less”? Sorry–just channeling my Inner Schoolmarm. Every “it’s” (used as possessive) and “its” (used as contraction) on this board sets my teeth on edge. And don’t even get me started on “your” as the spelling for “you’re.” Sorry!! I started out, after college, as a printer’s proofreader, and I guess I’ve never gotten over it. Mea culpa! ;-)

BTW–has anyone mentioned New College of Florida? That has fewer than 1,000 students. It was my undergraduate alma mater, and I confess that I have mixed views of it, although I agree with the student reviewer at students review dot com that the library stinks.

Haverford is 1,200 (but with juniors doing study abroad, the number on campus is probably close to 1,100).

Lady,

No problem–I’m actually a writer myself (I just don’t proofread my posts that well–lax, I know!) and am very uptight when it comes to properly using adverbs and adjectives! ;)
