Colorado School of Mines Early Action Class of 2030 Official Thread

Not a lot of chatter over the last few years- but wanted to create this thread just in case others are interested

This school is on D26s list.

With Colorado having its free application days next week: October 7-9 : I assume that many in state students will be applying soon.

Good luck all!!!

I have a 27 that likely will be applying, so happy to see some action here. I am surprised there isn’t more talk of the school here!

My ‘27 is interested, too! He did a camp there this summer and loved it. We are using it as a baseline for other schools when we visit.

My D26 did the Engineering Design Summer Camp a couple of years ago!

I am not sure if that is the one y’all did- but it was so awesome. Highly suggest it for anyone thinking about CSOM. D26 did notice that they also used this as a recruiting event :upside_down_face:. Lots of tours of campus and guest speakers and such :innocent:.
But an overall fun class and learning event with a taste of sitting in a class on campus.

Glad to see someone else on here applying for Fall 2026!!!

Mines is killing us this year with waiting for decisions. :innocent:
For Fall of 2024 and earlier- they started sending out decisions late September/early October.
Last year (Fall '25) I did not see any early decisions- all where in December and later- so I am thinking that we have another month of waiting
(not that big of a deal- just wished they waited until after the '26 students had made it through before the change :smiling_face_with_horns: :face_with_peeking_eye:)

Mines is my son’s top choice to study geology after our trip out to CO to visit Golden and Boulder. Mines is a reach (3.6UW and 1390 SAT), but he is realistic and understands that he should have worked harder in high school. If he gets in at Boulder, but not Mines, he would work to get the necessary grades and transfer.

The good news is that he is already in at Michigan State, Michigan Tech, and Penn State.

EA acceptances are due out on December 15.

Us too! My D26 (AZ) applied in October and this should be a Match school. We are dying here in anticipation since this is her #1. She has already been accepted to Embry Riddle-FL, and some others that she doesn’t really want to go to. Her top 2 are Mines and Arizona (sister’s school). Financial AZ makes the most sense, but everything else is her perfect match - Mines is her people. Good Luck to all applicants this year!!!

I am showing my ignorance here… if my son is deferred at Mines, does he still have a chance of being admitted in the spring with the RD cohort? If he is on the borderline, does the AO then scrutinize his senior fall semester grades? How does this work?

The recently sent an email out with a link talking about this.

Just in case your son did not see it or pass it onto you:
Hope this answers your question

First-Year Frequently Asked Questions - Undergraduate Admissions

What types of Admissions decisions are there?

Admit: An offer of admission to Mines indicates the student has been fully admitted to Mines. An important reminder is that all offers of admission are based on continued academic excellence, and any grades below a B will be subject to an admissions re-review. See FAQs below for next steps once admitted to Mines.

Conditional Admit: An offer of conditional admission indicates a student needs to participate in and pass Challenge, Mines’ summer bridge program. Challenge is a residential program held on the Mines campus from June 6 to July 8, 2026, and incorporates an introductory calculus course and an introductory chemistry course in addition to student, faculty and staff support.

Move to Regular: A move to regular decision indicates the potential for success at Mines, yet the admissions review committee would like to see mid-year grades and/or a greater interest in attending Mines. Students receiving this decision need to submit the Regular Decision Interest Form by February 15 and will receive an admission decision by March 1, 2026. Students who do not complete the Regular Decision Interest Form will have their applications withdrawn.

Waitlist: A waitlist decision indicates a student has not been accepted to Mines because the current incoming class is full, but may be offered admission if a spot in the incoming class opens. Students on the waitlist can indicate their continued interest in Mines.

Deny: A deny decision indicates that admission to Mines as a first-year student is not being offered to the applicant. We understand that a denial is a difficult decision to receive, yet we want to emphasize that many students originally denied can still graduate from Mines via a transfer pathway. In addition to the Mines Academy partnerships at Red Rocks Community College, Front Range Community College, Arapahoe Community College, and Community College of Aurora, we accept transfer students from other two- and four-year colleges and universities.

Yes, we did see this email yesterday. Thanks.

Anxiously awaiting decision. Mines is tied for son’s first choice. Not at all confident. GPA- 3.94/4 u/w, 33 ACT, 4 APs so far (all STEM) and taking 2 this year — physics c and m/e and Calculus A/B. I keep hoping decisions come out Friday so we can recover over the weekend.

Same here! It is by far my son’s top choice so just trying to figure out the next steps if he is not admitted (waitlist or RD). He has been accepted to some other great schools, but this was where he found his people. Hoping to have answers soon since I keep stalking all of the different boards just to make sure neither of us missed anything! Wish there was more info on the email that came out from the school on when decisions would be released…

We were told by his admissions counselor that decisions come out all at once by December 15. Hoping for tomorrow! Good luck!

Son accepted with 12k Presidential scholarship OOS. Looks like that can be as much as $16k, so bummed he did not get the whole offer but it makes a dent.

Decisions in portal!!

We are going to wait until Sunday to tell our son that Mine’s answer might be on the portal. If it’s bad news (which is likely) we don’t want to ruin his weekend.
