This is the official discussion thread for Columbia Class of 2028 RD applicants. Ask your questions and connect with fellow applicants.
Any interviews yet?
I don’t have an answer to your question but for what its worth, I know students who were never interviewed (even RD) and were admitted. So I wouldn’t sweat it either way.
Yes, I do know of a case. But different school.
To be clear, my answer was specific to Columbia. I know students accepted just last year who never received an invitation for an interview.
As far as I know, only Yale (among the Ivys) is transparent about who it grants interviews. They make it clear they interview people on the bubble. Meaning they don’t waste time interviewing people they are already confident they want to admit or those they are confident they don’t. So at Yale getting in without an interview just means they already had to you in the yes pile. But most of the rest of the schools either don’t say what their criteria is for expressly say is is random luck.
In any event, it’s definitely possible to get into Columbia RD without an interview or any other hook.

No interviews with them anymore
Anybody else still having trouble with financial aid portal? It doesn’t recognize Columbia ID or password. Called admissions and financial aid a few times starting around January 20th, and they acknowledge lack of financial aid and just keep saying someone is working on it and not to worry about it. Am wondering if it means application has been rejected and maybe they aren’t bothering to fix my financial aid account issue.
Unfortunately I don’t know the answer to your question. But you may want to re-post your question at the Columbia subreddit (r/columbia or “Virtual Low Steps”). The Reddit group seems to get a lot more activity than the Columbia subforum here does.
nvm
Signing financial portal is very hard in Columbia. So i don’t sign in then we don’t know whether it was updated or not either. I heard in previous posts, if they didn’t update financial portal, it means rejection. But we don’t know by march.
Columbia financial aid portal is very confusing.
If you are trying to use the same password from admissions portal then that won’t work. Please try to setup a different password/change password on financial aid portal and try. This worked for me.
Edit: Though I sent my documents they show as “not received”, not sure what I need to do.
columbia does not do interviews anymore
Now , it says " received " or yet not recived?
Did you contact them? We are same as you.
Does every international have parents tax document in financial aid checklist?
I think you should send them an email. I just found out today on this thread that there’s a separate financial aid portal so I tried accessing it but it wasn’t possible. I wanted to confirm if they received my parent’s tax form from IDOC as I’m an international. I sent a mail to them about three hours ago and they just replied. they gave me a temporary password and my ID
If you have your parents’ tax documents in the checklist, you should submit them through IDOC. They never accept them via email.
Ya, I submitted it now.
Anyone get a likely?
Can someone tell me what’s basically mentioned in likely letter?
