Columbia General Studies 2020 Spring

ACCEPTED!!!

Wait what??

@ColumbiaxQueen @theriley106 First off… huge congrats!!! Bright days at Columbia now! Would you like to share your stats and major??

Also, did you get an email? How did you know you got the decision?

Sure! And I found out through my email. They told me there’s been an update to my application status.

Stats
GPA when I applied: 3.54. Graduated with an associates degree.
High school GPA: N/A rook the TASC
Extracurricular: Phi theta kappa, Vice President of honors association, senator for student government, worked full time while in school.
SAT: didn’t take. Took the accuplacer
Essay: I believe this was my hook. I talked about my journey to college and answered their prompts.

Oh and I got my acceptance package from fedex in the mail today

@ColumbiaxQueen
Hi, could you share what happened at the interview? I have an interview scheduled and would love some recent insight.

Just called the admission office and I’ll get the decision after 5pm today… NERVOUS

Really? Are you sure? On the eligibility page it says “Applicants are only eligible for admission if they have taken a break of a year or more in their educational paths or have a compelling reason for which they can only attend Columbia as a part-time student.”

Did you fulfill the second requirement? If so, what was your reason?

I heard that transfers in your place usually apply to Columbia College rather than GS as GS is specific for non-traditionals. GS isn’t a backdoor entrance with higher acceptance rate, it’s a student service specific to non-traditional students, right?

@MadeMyDadProud Yes. I’ve also heard GS consists of a large number of CC students. In my case, I’ll be in the military for two years next year as well.

@incomingvbied basically they asked me to clear up some things about my application. It wasn’t a scary interview at all. They were super nice so don’t worry

Got accepted yesterday! Still waiting for decisions from NYU though.

Can anyone give me some insight/ beliefs on the possibility of acceptance? I graduated High School in 2013 with a dismal GPA (2.4), and joined the Army after graduating where I served for 4 years, to include a 9-month deployment to Afghanistan. After the military, I enrolled in the local community college of my hometown, and took entry level (101, and some 201 level classes) and have completed 30 credits with a 3.8 GPA, and am currently in the middle of my third semester, working on 13 more. I completed my application for the 2020 Spring semester in mid-October, and got the final piece of my checklist in (my high school transcript was an absolute nightmare to get a hold of due to incompetence from the schools staff) on November 11th. I called the admissions office and they said as long as I submitted the application before November 1st, they didn’t need the supporting documents until the 25th. I wrote a 6 page essay for the autobiography, something like 30 words shy of the 2000 word limit, and took the GSAE, since I had never taken the SAT’s or ACT’s. I scored a 275 on the writing portion, a 278 on the reading portion, and got a 7/8 on the essay.

@blofish123 Your odds seem pretty good. Your experience and current grades seem pretty good - thank you for your service. Do you have any extra curricular as well? Congrats on your GSAE scores! How did you get your scores? I thought they keep them internal

Look on page five on this thread, there’s an link from another user, it will take you to a website where you put in your info, then you’ll get an email that will take you to your scores

@MadeMyDadProud see my previous comment I forgot to tag you in

@blofish123

Interesting - I don’t get any email when I fill out the form and request it. Wonder if its a sign…

Did you schedule for an interview too?

@MadeMyDadProud I didn’t get an interview, not yet ateast. When you fill out the form there should be a button at the bottom that sends something like “send email” and then a confirmation message saying it was sent

@blofish123 It gave me a confirmation message saying it was sent, but nothing has come up in my inbox. Nothing in spam either.

I actually tried it out last month after I took the test. Same result :neutral:

Just got my acceptance letter!!
